Royal Enfield, the global leader in the mid-sized motorcycle segment announced a first of its kind initiative – the ‘Slide School‘ to encourage motorcycle enthusiasts to experience flat tracking. The Slide School was unveiled by Mr. Vinod Dasari, CEO Royal Enfield.
The first edition of the Slide School will commence in January 2020 at Big Rock Dirt Park in Bangalore. During the unveiling of the Slide School, Royal Enfield also showcased the Himalayan flat track custom motorcycle, developed in partnership with S&S Cycles USA.
Rider Mania 2019 also saw the first-ever demo run with the Himalayan FTs on Saturday, November 23rd at Rider Mania’s Dirt Track arena. The demo run was flagged off by Vinod Dasari, CEO, Royal Enfield in front of an enthusiastic crowd looking to get a first-hand glimpse of flat tracking.
Flat tracking is one of the fastest-growing forms of motorsport globally, its accessibility and its entertaining format are appealing to both participants and viewers of all ages and cultures. Flat track riding takes place on an oval track and involves the riders riding around the track over a set number of laps. The skill of flat track riding lies in the overall ability of the rider to control his motorcycle, especially when cornering, where the riders’ ability to slide the motorcycle sideways through the turn is a defining feature of the event.
The control necessary for the flat track has long been seen as excellent training for road riding, with the ability to control a flat track motorcycle making the rider both better and safer. With this in mind, we have developed a set of modifications for the Himalayan FT that will enable riders of all levels to experience the fun of flat track riding while improving their everyday riding skills.
The Slide School is a great platform to encourage and grow the interest for flat-tracking in India from the grassroots in an accessible and sustainable manner. Royal Enfield plans to have many such schools across India and to build and nurture this emerging global sport in India.
