Kia India Secures Highest-Ever May Sales with 23.6% Year-on-Year Growth

Kia India, a leading mass-premium automaker in the country, today announced its highest-ever May wholesale volume since entering the Indian market. The manufacturer dispatched 27,586 units in May 2026, registering a 23.6% year-on-year growth compared to the 22,315 units sold during the same month in 2025. This volume surge demonstrates sustained market demand across the company’s localized product portfolio.

Year-to-Date Performance and Core Portfolio Drivers

The May sales figures contribute to a strong upward trajectory for the automaker in 2026. Kia India’s year-to-date (YTD) sales have reached 139,197 units, demonstrating a 14.6% growth over the 121,514 units recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.

This sustained momentum is primarily led by the new Kia Seltos, which has consistently exceeded the 10,000-unit monthly sales threshold since its launch in January. The mid-size SUV’s market position is supported by its five-star Bharat New Car Assessment Program (BNCAP) rating, making it India’s highest-scoring internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle evaluated by the organization to date.

Kia Carens Clavis EV

Volume growth was further augmented by the Kia Sonet compact SUV, which expanded its market reach via broader automatic transmission availability across both petrol and diesel powertrains. Additionally, the model year 2026 (MY26) Kia Syros, the Carens Clavis, and the Clavis EV have seen escalating consumer traction.

Strategic Initiatives and Operational Infrastructure

To lower the barrier to electric vehicle (EV) adoption, the automaker has introduced its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program. This framework separates initial vehicle purchase costs from battery ownership, altering the economics of electric mobility for mainstream consumers.

Commenting on the commercial milestone, Mr. Atul Sood, Senior Vice-President of Sales & Marketing at Kia India, stated:

“Our highest-ever May sales performance reflects the strong alignment of our product portfolio with evolving customer preferences across segments. The continued strong demand for the new Seltos along with Sonet, coupled with the encouraging response to the Carens Clavis, Clavis EV and the MY26 Syros, has helped us sustain our growth momentum. At the same time, recent initiatives like our Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) program are playing an important role in making electric mobility more accessible and practical for customers.”

Kia Sales May 2026

Kia India backs its growing sales volumes with a manufacturing footprint in the Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh, featuring an installed annual production capacity of 300,000 units. Since commencing mass production in August 2019, the facility has managed nearly 1.5 million vehicle dispatches, comprising over 1.5 million domestic sales and more than 3.67 lakh exported units.

The company’s retail and service presence spans 891 touchpoints across 402 cities. This infrastructure is supported by 130 Certified Pre-Owned outlets to manage trade-ins and vehicle liquidations. Furthermore, the company established itself as a digital transport leader with more than 5 lakh connected cars operating on Indian roads.
