If you are in the market for a new car, chances are that you are confused between what body type of cars you want. However if you do not want an SUV and instead are looking for something else then these two are really good choices.
Hyundai Aura vs Toyota Glanza
Compact SUVs are much more expensive and a well feature loaded compact sedan or a premium hatchback could be a good alternative. So which makes more sense? We compared the newest premium hatchback and the newest compact sedan in their automatic avatars.
Looks
Both cars look good and do not look like affordable cars in any way. Both cars look premium with big enough alloys and projector headlamps with LEDs for their top trims. The Glanza and Aura are same in length despite the Aura having a boot sticking out. The Aura though is narrower than the Glanza. The Glanza is basically a rebadged Baleno and gets a chrome grille plus the design is good.
The Aura is more aggressive looking with various lines and things like the blackened C-pillar. The Aura overall looks more aggressive but depends on what shape you like. Do note the Glanza has 16inch wheels while the Aura has 15inch ones.
Inside
Step inside and both look premium. The design is towards sporty side with a good enough features list. You cannot find a more feature loaded compact sedan or hatchback at this price. The Glanza has an all black interior with silver finish bits while the Aura has a lighter shade with a lot of coloured accents. That said you can also get the Aura with a sportier black interior with the turbo petrol.
The Aura interior feels more special and has more quality though especially with the design. You can also say that the Glanza with its fancier instrument cluster looks cool too.
In terms of features the Aura again wins with a bigger touchscreen, wireless charging, rear ac vents which the Glanza does not have. Both have good features climate control, engine push button start or cruise control, touchscreen etc. However while the Aura wins the battle till now the Glanza has more space inside. It feels wider so three is easier to fit in and legroom/headroom is better too. The Aura has the bigger boot though.
Engines
Both the Aura and Glanza offer you BS6 1.2 petrols but the Aura offers you a 1.0 turbo petrol with more power along with a BS6 diesel too. The Glanza is only petrol but the Glanza is also offered with a CVT automatic along with a manual while the Aura is only available with an AMT.
The AMT from Hyundai in the Aura is the best yet with nothing to complain off in the city plus in terms of smoothness plus it is efficient also. However, when in highway the AMT pause is there and it cannot compete with a proper automatic like the CVT from Glanza which is also extremely efficient.
In terms of the engine line-up, the Glanza 1.2 has the peppier engine over the 1.2l of the Aura but the Aura blows away the Glanza with its 1.0 turbo petrol which offers a lot of performance. Even the diesel in the Aura is smooth and refined which is not there in the Glanza. The Aura rides better while the Glanza is nimble- being a city hatchback.
Verdict
The Hyundai Aura starts from Rs 5.8 lakh to Rs 9.2 lakh for the top-end. The Toyota Glanza starts from Rs 7 lakh to Rs 9 lakh for the top-end. What should you buy? To answer what we set out to find, the Aura looks better, has more features and the turbo petrol is more fun.
Thus the Aura with the turbo petrol is the one to buy if you drive yourself and like the features. However if you want space, practicality, efficiency over performance, features or looks then the Glanza CVT is the one to buy.
A premium hatchback is more practical and offers more space plus efficiency while a compact sedan brings in a more premium experience in form of its driving but loses out on space. You decide ultimately what you want.
