Maruti Suzuki is the top player in the passenger car space in India , It managed to sell a total of 172,512 units in May 2018, which is clearly an increase of 26 per cent compare to last years 136,962 units . Among this 1,72,512 units , 9,312 units was for export and rest 163,200 is for the domestic market .
The mini segment cars like Maruti Suzuki Alto and WagonR saw a drop in sales by 3.1 per cent ,with sales figures of 37,864 units in May 2018 compared to 39,089 units in may 2017 . There has been a decline of 14.8 per cent in the sales of its executive class sedan (the CIAZ ) which sold 4,024 units this year compared to 4,724 units in May 2017 .
The compact car segment saw a massive rise in sales by 50.8 per cent. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 77,263 units in this space this year as compared to 51,234 units in May 2017. popular cars in this segment are Swift, Celerio, Baleno and Dzire .
Another massive growth driver for Maruti is its line of utility vehicles which is dominated by Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza which has increased in sales even this year. With the launch of a AMT version on the Brezza ,Maruti have boosted their sales figure by 14.4 per cent for this year , Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 25,629 units in May 2018. This also includes the sales of Gypsy, Ertiga and S-Cross.
The light commercial vehicles of Maruthi has also seen a increase in sales by 297.9 per cent. Maruti Suzuki sold a total of 1,703 units in this space as compared to 428 units in May 2017.
