KTM RC Range to get Electronic Throttle in 2016
Popular Austrian auto maker – KTM is showing no signs of slowing down – other than expanding its motorcycle line-up, the company is also working on enhancing its range of motorcycles in India. Currently, KTM sells bikes like Duke 200 and Duke 390, naked motorcycles and RC200 and RC390 which are fully faired sports bikes.
To carry forward its spree of innovation, KTM plans to bring electronic throttle to their RC range of motorcycles as an upgrade for the year 2016. The newest upgrade is going to provide better throttle response, control as well as road handling. The technology of having electronic throttles in the motorcycles is now catching up. In fact, the recent high-end motorcycles comes with the electronic throttling technology in it, now popularly known as ‘ride-by-wire’.
The Austrian bike maker, KTM has now positioned its RC range of bikes as premium when compared to KTM Duke and others, and you can expect electronic throttles to be present exclusively in KTM RC200 and RC390. The electronic throttle would be sourced from the Japanese supplier, Keihin Corporation. The electronic throttles are already fitted in motorcycles like the Duke 690 and the Super Duke 1290 which are present in overseas markets.
The electronic throttle system eliminates the throttle cables that connects the throttle and the throttle body and it essentially replaces it with an electronic connection. The bike’s throttle device consists of an electrically powered throttle valve and a contactless sensor for feedback. The electronic engine management regulates and takes care of the throttle valve electrically. The position of the accelerator throttle would acts as a trigger input and the requirements of systems that can influence engine torque. It also forms the basis for including adaptive cruise control and active safety systems such as motorcycle stability control system.
KTM also has plans to introduce an Adventure series with 250cc engine in 2016. However, the electronic throttle is going to be offered only in KTM’s RC series.
