Improving Performance of Auto Industry in January 2017: SIAM
Production
The industry produced a total 21,086,185 vehicles including passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, three wheelers, two wheelers and quadricycle in April-January 2017 as against 19,882,485 in April-January 2016, registering a growth of 6.05 percent over the same period last year.
Domestic Sales
The sales of Passenger Vehicles grew by 9.17 percent in April-January 2017 over the same period last year. Within the Passenger Vehicles, Passenger Cars, Utility Vehicles and Vans grew by 3.29 percent, 32.08 percent and 3.54 percent respectively during April-January 2017 over the same period last year.
The overall Commercial Vehicles segment registered a growth of 3.03 percent in April-January 2017 as compared to the same period last year. Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (M&HCVs) declined by (-) 1.53 percent and Light Commercial Vehicles grew by 6.54 percent during April-January 2017 over the same period last year.
Three Wheelers sales declined by (-)1.09 percent in April-January 2017 over the same period last year. Passenger Carrier sales declined by (-) 4.15 and Goods Carrier sales grew by 13.21 percent in April-January 2017 over April- January 2016.
Two Wheelers sales registered a growth at 8.29 percent during April-January 2017 over April-January 2016. Within the Two Wheelers segment, Scooters, Motorcycles and Mopeds grew by 12.55 percent, 5.09 percent and 26.79 percent respectively in April-January 2017 over April- January 2016.
Exports
In April-January 2017, overall automobile exports declined by (-) 7.39 percent. While Passenger Vehicles and Commercial Vehicles exports registered a growth of 17.24 percent and 8.20 percent respectively, exports of Three Wheelers and Two Wheelers declined by (-) 34.02 percent and (-) 9.73 percent respectively in April-January 2017 over April-January 2016.
