Kia Sorento Ready for India Launch: Production Begins in Anantapur
When Kia first entered the Indian market back in October 2018, they showcased a lineup of globally proven models to gauge Indian buyer interest. Among those showcased cars, the Sorento stood out prominently as a compelling flag-bearer for the brand’s international SUV lineup. During that early showcase, I spent time covering their strategy and conducted a detailed interview on Kia’s roadmap for India.

Fast forward to today, and that early promise is coming full circle. Kia India has officially revealed the first images of the production-spec Kia Sorento, with the very first locally manufactured unit rolling off the line at their Anantapur plant in Andhra Pradesh. The official India launch is set for September 4, 2026.
GaadiKey’s Take: Kia’s 2026 Product Aggression
This has been an extraordinarily busy year for Kia in India, and at GaadiKey, we are genuinely impressed by their product strategy. They kicked off the year with the launch of the new Seltos—which looks fantastic on the road—and followed up just last week with the launch of the Syros EV.

Adding the Sorento into the mix demonstrates clear market understanding. Rather than relying on a single engine option or niche positioning, Kia is covering all bases: mass-market EV options, sharp mid-size SUVs, and now a high-tech, multi-powertrain three-row family flagship.
What the Indian-Spec Kia Sorento Brings to the Table
The Sorento enters a competitive premium three-row SUV segment, but it arrives with several notable firsts for both Kia and the Indian market.
1. Hybrid AWD and Diesel Powertrains
The Sorento introduces Kia’s first hybrid SUV powertrain with All-Wheel Drive (AWD) to India. This setup combines electrified efficiency with rough-road capability. Recognizing the ongoing demand for long-distance cruising efficiency in large SUVs, Kia is also offering a traditional Diesel powertrain alongside the Hybrid, giving buyers a choice based on their usage patterns.

2. Live Generative AI Technology
The Indian-spec Sorento will mark the global debut of the Kia AI Assistant powered by Live Generative AI capabilities. This makes it the first vehicle in the Indian automotive industry to integrate live generative AI, replacing static voice commands with conversational, real-time contextual interactions for navigation, vehicle settings, and information retrieval.
3. Local Production at Anantapur
Rather than bringing the Sorento in via the expensive CBU route, Kia has localized production at its Anantapur manufacturing facility. This plant has been operational since 2019 and serves as the assembly base for domestic demand and exports.
4. Premium Three-Row Stance
The SUV features Kia’s updated global design language, emphasizing a wide stance, sharp lighting signatures, and modern three-row cabin layouts tailored for family comfort. Pre-bookings have already commenced across Kia India dealerships and through their official website.
