Kia India, a leading mass-premium automaker, today launched its first made-in-India electric vehicle, the Carens Clavis EV, starting at INR 17.99 lacs. Designed to meet the evolving needs of prospective EV customers, the Carens Clavis EV offers a unique blend of space, clever features, and flexibility without compromising on affordability. Whether for a long road trip, a quick weekend getaway, or a regular inter-city commute, the Carens Clavis EV handles it all with ease.

Mr. Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, commented on the announcement. He stated,

“We are committed to leading the future of electric mobility through innovation, sustainability and a deep understanding of evolving consumer needs.”

He also said,

“The Carens Clavis EV represents the next step in this journey. It is built on three core pillars — our proven global EV technology, advanced features that simplify the driving experience, and our unique RV philosophy that stands for movement, flexibility, and togetherness”.

Mr. Lee further added,

“The Kia Carens Clavis EV, India’s first Electric RV, has been thoughtfully built for a nation that moves with ambition and togetherness. Inspired by India, our first made-in India electric vehicle carries forward the idea of ‘E-We’ defining a new way to move.”

Power, Performance & Range Built for India

The Carens Clavis EV delivers smooth and responsive performance with its reliable and efficient electric powertrain. Its battery is globally benchmarked and locally validated, ensuring high standards of safety, durability, and adaptability to Indian conditions.

Key specifications include:

  • Battery Options: Two options are available: a 42kWh battery with an ARAI-certified range of 404 km (MIDC Full) and a 51.4 kWh battery offering an ARAI-certified range of 490 km (MIDC Full).
  • Motor Options: It comes with 99Kw and 126Kw output motors, delivering 255Nm torque. These are ideal for quick acceleration, even when fully loaded with seven passengers.
  • High Efficiency: The motor boasts 95% efficiency. The 51.4kWh battery variant accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds.
  • IP67-Certified Battery: The battery pack is IP67-certified, making it both dustproof and waterproof. Kia has tested the battery pack for a 420mm water-soak test, drop test, and extreme vibration trials.
  • Thermal Management: A liquid-cooled thermal management system helps maintain battery safety even in peak Indian summers.
  • Active Air Flap: An Active Air Flap enhances battery temperature management and improves aerodynamic efficiency.

Smart Charging & Intelligent Regeneration

The Carens Clavis EV offers optimized charging and innovative driving features:

  • Fast Charging: It charges from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes using a 100kW DC fast charger.
  • Regenerative Braking: Drivers can access four levels of regenerative braking using paddle shifters, allowing them to tailor energy recovery and deceleration.
  • i-Pedal Technology: Selecting the highest setting, Level 4 Regeneration (i-Pedal mode), enables true one-pedal driving, particularly useful in urban stop-and-go traffic. This mode maximizes energy recovery and reduces reliance on physical brakes.
  • Auto Mode: For added convenience, the Auto Mode intelligently selects the optimal regeneration level (from 1 to 4) based on real-time driving conditions.

Cabin Designed for India: Space, Comfort & Convenience

The Carens Clavis EV offers a premium, spacious, and tech-savvy interior designed to enhance the driving experience.

  • Dual Panoramic Display: A 67.62 cm (26.62”) Dual Panoramic Display Panel integrates infotainment and driver instrument clusters.
  • Seating Flexibility: It features one-touch easy electric tumble for the second-row seats and a Boss Mode, which allows a second-row passenger to slide the front passenger seat forward for added legroom.
  • Premium Audio: A Bose premium sound system with 8-speakers and 64-color ambient lighting, including footwell lamps, enhances the cabin atmosphere.
  • Smart Features: Highlights include a smart infotainment-temperature control swap switch, a floating centre console with surround ambient lighting, and a Smart Pure Air Purifier with AQI display.
  • Comfort Features: Ventilated front seats, a powered driver’s seat, and a Dual Pane Panoramic sunroof contribute to enhanced comfort and a light-filled cabin.
  • Shift-by-Wire: The car features a Column Type Shift-by-Wire system.

Futuristic Design & Advanced Safety

The Carens Clavis EV boasts a bold and modern design inspired by Kia’s “Opposites United” philosophy. Its standout exterior elements include the Kia Digital Tiger Face, Star Map LED Connected DRLs with integrated turn signals, Ice cube MFR LED headlamps, Star Map LED connected tail lamps, 43.18cm (R17”) crystal-cut dual-tone aero alloy wheels, and 200mm ground clearance. Other features include front charging ports with LED light and charge indicator, a 25-litre frunk with cover, a new Matte Ivory Silver color option, and a Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) for enhanced pedestrian safety.

The Carens Clavis EV redefines safety by combining global best practices with features specifically designed for Indian roads.

  • ADAS Level 2: It offers ADAS Level 2 with over 20 autonomous features. These include Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Keeping Assist, Front Collision-Avoidance Assist (for Car, Pedestrian, Cyclist, direct oncoming, junction turning), Blind Spot Collision Warning, Blind View Monitor in Cluster, Rear Cross Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, and Driver Attention Warning.
  • Hi-Safety Features: Beyond ADAS, it comes with a comprehensive package of 18 Hi-Safety features. These include six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), Downhill Brake Control (DBC), rear parking sensors, ISOFIX, rear occupant alert, and all-wheel disc brakes. Additionally, rollover sensors activate and deploy airbags in case of a rollover.

Seamless Connectivity On The Go & Confident Ownership

The Carens Clavis EV offers 90 advanced connected features designed to enhance the driving experience. These include Set Charge Limit, Energy Consumption Details, Set Schedule Charging, Charging Status, Distance to Empty (DTE) range display in map, Charging Information, Charge Completion Notification, Range Alert, Set V2L Discharging Limit, and Set Charging Current Setting.

Kia India is committed to building EV confidence from day one. To this end, Kia India has developed a comprehensive EV ecosystem. Through the K-Charge platform on the MyKia app, owners have access to over 11,000 charging points nationwide. The Kia EV Route Planner provides live charger availability with route planning and streamlined payment options.
