Nissan to Launch Three New SUVs in India
Following the recent introduction of the Gravite, Nissan India is strategically preparing to expand its footprint by launching three new SUVs in the Indian market. This aggressive product strategy is aimed at capturing a larger share of the highly competitive utility vehicle segment. The upcoming lineup will feature a mix of local manufacturing and premium imports, specifically focusing on the much-awaited Tekton mid-size SUV, a practical 7-seater model, and the legendary Nissan Patrol as a flagship offering.
The Nissan Tekton: A Premium Mid-Size Contender
The Nissan Tekton is positioned as a pivotal release for the brand, serving as the second product under the Renault-Nissan joint venture’s revival plan. Expected to launch by mid-2026, the Tekton is built upon the Renault Global Modular Platform (RGMP), which it shares with the new Renault Duster.
Despite sharing mechanical foundations with the Duster, the Tekton will carry a highly distinct visual identity inspired by the global Nissan Patrol. The exterior profile is characterized by an aggressive front design, striking 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, and a modern connected LED light bar at the rear complete with a C-clamp signature.

The interior of the Tekton is designed to offer a premium experience. The cabin will feature a triple-tone dashboard highlighted by copper accents and gloss black finishes. For technology and entertainment, the SUV will be equipped with a connected curved display seamlessly integrating the infotainment system and the digital driver’s display, alongside an 8-speaker sound system. Passenger comfort and safety are prioritized through features such as a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic air conditioning, a 360-degree camera, and LEVEL 2 ADAS technology.
Buyers will have three distinct engine options to choose from:
- 1.0L Turbo Petrol: This engine produces 100hp and 160Nm of torque, and comes paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
- 1.3L Turbo Petrol: Generating a healthier 163hp and 280Nm of torque, this unit can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic transmission.
- 1.8L Strong Hybrid: Offering a combined power output of 160hp, this powertrain is expected to deliver an impressive fuel economy of around 23 to 25 kmpl.
The Upcoming Nissan 7-Seater SUV
Building on the foundation laid by the Tekton, Nissan is also developing a larger 7-seater SUV based on the same RGMP platform. Slated to arrive in the first half of 2027, this model is tailored for larger families requiring additional space.
To comfortably accommodate the third row of seating, this SUV will feature a longer wheelbase than the Tekton, with an expected overall length measuring between 4.5 and 4.6 meters. To optimize production and development, the vehicle will share several features and body panels with the upcoming Renault Bigster 7-seater SUV. Powering this larger family hauler will be the 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine and the highly efficient 1.8L strong hybrid engine.
Nissan Patrol: The Flagship Behemoth
At the top of the range, Nissan is actively exploring the introduction of its globally renowned Patrol full-sized SUV to the Indian market. The company has initiated discussions with its dealer partners in India, receiving a positive response regarding the vehicle’s potential. The Patrol could see a launch towards the end of this year or early next year.

Rather than manufacturing it locally, Nissan plans to bring the Patrol to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). To facilitate this, the automaker will utilize the Indian government’s homologation-free import limit, which permits the import of up to 2,500 vehicles annually without requiring local testing.
The Nissan Patrol is a traditional, rugged body-on-frame SUV designed to conquer challenging terrains. It will be offered with formidable engine choices:
- A naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 engine that produces 316hp and 386Nm of torque.
- A potent 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 that churns out a massive 425hp and 700Nm of torque.
Both of these robust engines will be mated to a smooth 9-speed automatic gearbox. Ensuring its off-road supremacy, the Patrol comes equipped with six selectable drive modes: Rock, Sand, Mud, Standard, Eco, and Sport.
