Maruti Suzuki Achieves Highest-Ever Monthly Volume With 242,688 Units in May 2026

On June 1, 2026, Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced its highest-ever monthly sales performance, closing May 2026 with a total volume of 242,688 units. This record-breaking figure represents a substantial increase over the 180,077 units sold during the same month last year. The growth was primarily driven by an all-time high in domestic sales alongside a sharp expansion in export volumes, reflecting resilient consumer demand across both local and international markets.

Analysis of Domestic Passenger Vehicle Sales

Maruti Suzuki’s domestic passenger vehicle (PV) segment reached 190,337 units in May 2026, up from 135,962 units in May 2025. The expansion was visible across all primary vehicle categories:

  • Mini Segment: Sales of the Alto and S-Presso more than doubled, climbing to 16,275 units compared to 6,776 units in May 2025.
  • Compact and Mid-Size Segment: Models including the Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR remained the largest volume drivers, yielding 81,555 units against 61,960 units in the prior year’s matching period.
  • Utility Vehicles: Demand for utility models—comprising the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoria, and XL6—grew to 79,267 units, up from 54,899 units in May 2025.
  • Vans: The Eeco contributed 13,240 units to the domestic total, up from 12,327 units year-over-year.

Commercial Vehicles, Exports, and OEM Partnerships

Beyond domestic passenger cars, Maruti Suzuki registered steady growth in its commercial and international divisions, though contract manufacturing volumes experienced a shift.

Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV)

The Super Carry light commercial vehicle posted modest gains, reaching 3,198 units in May 2026 compared to 2,728 units in May 2025. This brought total domestic sales, including both passenger and commercial models, to 193,535 units.

Export Infrastructure

Export operations expanded significantly. Maruti Suzuki shipped 41,914 units to international markets in May 2026, a marked increase from the 31,219 units exported in May 2025.

OEM Sales

Sales to other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) was the only segment to contract, dropping to 7,239 units in May 2026 from 10,168 units in the previous year.

Fiscal Year-to-Date (FY 2026-27) Performance Data

The strong performance in May builds upon a positive start to the current fiscal year. Cumulative volumes for April and May combined demonstrate a clear upward trajectory across all major indices.

Sales CategoryApril-May FY 2026-27April-May FY 2025-26

Utility Vehicles157,159 units113,921 units

Market Implications for the Automotive Sector

  • Strong Entry-Level Rebound: The sharp increase in the mini-car segment indicates a renewed interest or stabilizing economic factors at the entry-level tier of the domestic consumer market.
  • Utility Segment Momentum: With utility vehicles approaching the volumes of the traditionally dominant compact segment, product mix optimization toward larger, feature-rich models continues to validate the company’s portfolio expansion.
  • Diversified Risk Profile: Increased international export capacity helps insulate overall manufacturing volumes against localized economic adjustments or seasonal domestic variations.
