Toyota India’s Statement on Phasing out of BS3 Cars

The BS3 vehicle ban imposed by Supreme court has not only affected the 2 wheeler industry but also the 4 wheeler industry. Last week, Mahindra issued a press statement on BS4 implementation and ban on BS3 vehicles. Today, Toyota India (Toyota Kirloskar Motor) has issued an official statement on BS4 implementation and phasing out of BS3 cars. Following is the full press statement by Toyota India on BS3 phase out:

Post the phasing out of BS3 vehicles, we at Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reaffirm that we stopped BS 3 vehicle production since last year, from 1st Apr ’2016 onwards including the retail sales of such vehicles (from dealers to customers), which is in advance of the requested deadline of 1st April’ 2017. None of our dealers are impacted by such phase out.

We at Toyota Kirloskar Motor are concerned about the increasing pollution levels which needs immediate attention from all walks of life. We strongly commend the Government of India’s initiative in phasing out BS3 vehicles. This is a step in the right direction. Toyota Kirloskar Motor delivers sustainable mobility through its environment friendly manufacturing & products. All our vehicles currently being sold in India are BS IV compliant. Here, we would urge the Government also to put in place an enabling framework to phase out BS I & BS II vehicles.

We are geared up to meet the future challenges associated with the roll-out of BS6 technology by 1st April’ 2020. We remain confident that our Oil & Gas Industry will provide BS VI fuels before 2020 at least 6 months in advance to enable the auto industry to synchronise its production of BS VI compliant vehicles accordingly. To emerge as a “world-class automotive manufacturing hub for cleaner vehicles”, we need a concerted effort from the Government, the Oil & Gas Industry and the Automotive Industry to work closely in creating an enabling ecosystem.
