Supporting to the earlier reports on the possibility of Honda coming up with a 100cc motorcycle to disrupt the commuter motorcycle market dominated by Hero Splendor. Honda 2 Wheelers India has now officially confirmed that the launch date of its upcoming 100cc motorcycle will be on 15th March 2023 . The Japanese 2-wheeler major which is in fierce battle with Hero MotoCorp for the No.1 position in Indian 2 Wheeler market has made a bold move challenging the supremacy of Splendor.
With the new announcement of “Honda Ki 100” , the company’s focus has clearly shifted to building the most affordable, most fuel efficient, most value for money motorcycle. Honda does have other commuter motorcycles in its portfolio in the range of Rs 72,000 to Rs 80,000 – The Livo and CD110 (Dream) which clocks less than 5,000 units per month. As you know, Honda is very well known for its automatic scooters like Activa and Dio and leads the automatic scooter industry in India from more than a decade.
Talking about Hero Motocorp, the company’s most successful product is Splendor and it has been a leader in the commuter motorcycle segment from decades. What Activa has done to Honda is what Splendor has done to Hero Motocorp. As Hero is launching multiple scooters like XOOM and electric scooters under the VIDA brand, Honda is now trying to enter Hero’s commuter motorcycle territory with the launch of new 100cc motorcycle – Honda Ki 100 / Honda Shine 100.
Honda Shine 100 – Upcoming Honda 100cc Motorcycle?
While the name of the 100cc bike will be revealed on 15th March 2023 in Mumbai – there is a strong belief that the upcoming motorcycle may be called as Shine 100. Honda Shine 125 and SP125 are one of the successful products launched by Honda 2 Wheelers India addressing the 125cc motorcycle segment which has seen immense growth post inflation caused by pandemic. The average ownership cost of any 150cc motorcycle is upwards 1.2 to 1.4 lakhs (as of Feb 2023), which has triggered the motorcycle lovers that are budget conscious to stick to 125cc motorcycles like Shine or SP125 that are easily available around Rs 1 lakhs. The introduction of one more fresh commuter motorcycle in 100cc category like the Honda Shine 100 will attract more people towards it because of its affordability and value for money.
What to expect from Honda’s upcoming 100cc motorcycle – Honda Shine 100?
The upcoming Honda Shine 100 is expected to be E20 fuel compatible (Ethanol based fuel) and will feature the Flex fuel engine. The motorcycle will be BS6 ready and OBD-2 compliant and will be addressing the current day expectation in terms of design. Expect the price of new Honda Shine 100 to be under Rs 69,000 ( Ex-showroom India).
