Kinetic Watts and Volts Aims to Be a Top 3 Electric Scooter Player by 2028
Kinetic Watts and Volts, the new EV subsidiary of Pune-based Kinetic Engineering Ltd, has made a bold entry into the electric vehicle market by relaunching the iconic Kinetic DX as an electric scooter. The company has ambitious plans for this new product and the Indian electric two-wheeler market.
“Our target is to be among the top 3 electric scooter players within the next 3 years. We are aiming for 1.50 lakh annual scooters by the third year,”
Kinetic Engineering’s Vice Chairman & Managing Director Ajinkya Firodia told in a press meet.

The Relaunch of the Iconic Kinetic DX
The Kinetic DX, a modern-day EV tribute to the original Kinetic Honda DX, is currently available in two variants. It is priced in the range of Rs 1.11 lakh to Rs 1.17 lakh. At this price point, it will compete with major players like the Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube, Ather Ritza, and Hero MotoCorp’s Vida V2, most of which have lower-priced versions starting at or below the Rs 1 lakh mark.
A Clear Roadmap with a Singular Focus
Kinetic Watts and Volts appears to be betting big on this new product. Firodia stated that the company will focus exclusively on scaling the volume of the Kinetic DX in the first three years. “We do not have plans to launch new models or a new segment in the first three years. Our entire focus will be on scaling the volume of Kinetic DX.” However, he did confirm that there will be new variants of the model in due course, possibly a more technologically advanced version or a scaled-down version.

Building a Robust Ecosystem through Group Synergies
To support its aggressive volume targets, Kinetic Watts and Volts is leveraging synergies within the Kinetic Group. The company relies heavily on internal manufacturing for five main components: the controller, motor, battery, chassis, and sheet metal. Kinetic Communication handles the controller and motor, while a battery plant has been established under Kinetic Engineering’s Vangex brand. The manufacturing itself takes place at a modernized facility in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra, which was earlier used to manufacture the Luna. The facility has a capacity of 6,000 electric vehicle units per month in a single shift, which is scalable up to 12,000 units. The company plans to fully utilize this facility over the next three years to hit its target of 1.5 lakh units.
On the distribution front, the company has big plans to scale its network. Over the next three years, it targets opening around 300 dealerships. “We already have 20 dealers signed up pre-launch, mostly in western India, and have plans to reach 150 dealers across 50–60 markets within the first year of launch,” Firodia said. The expansion will begin in big cities like Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Surat, and Raipur before entering smaller towns.
While the company is currently focused on the domestic market, it sees potential in global markets including Africa, UAE, Vietnam, and Europe for future exports.
