It had been a long time since Maruti had a sedan in their automobile line up and then arrived the Ciaz. Ciaz created a buzz among sedan lovers for the amount of luxury and practicality it offered. Getting Ciaz to the market helped Maruti to set a benchmark in the sedan segment but it had to do a lot to win against the cars like the Skoda Rapid, Hyundai Elantra and the Hyundai Verna. Let’s leave the Koreans alone and focus on the spec comparison between the Maruti Ciaz and the Skoda Rapid.
Maruti Ciaz vs Skoda Rapid: Design
Design on the Ciaz is unlike any other car from Maruti. It does not grab your attention as soon as you look at it, but it will definitely grow onto you. Rectangular front grille with chrome slats look great and the Suzuki logo makes the front end look complete. Black plastic fog lamp covers look dated but the projector headlamps look fantastic. Come to the side and you see an ordinary, Maruti like design. Chrome door handles and window outlines make it look a little better. Come to the back and you will find the Honda City looking rectangular tail lamps. 16- inch alloy wheels give some life to a rather pale design.
Skoda Rapid on the other hand wins the design against the Ciaz. Updated design on the Rapid makes for a good first impression. Re-designed Signature Rapid grille with chrome surrounds give it a handsome look. Skoda logo on the Rapid is placed on the bonnet and the front grille has vertical slats to support its signature styling. Projector headlamps with black background look mean and the tapered LED DRL’s look fantastic. Come to the side and the Rapid doesn’t look all that great. It does not get chrome door handles and a chrome outline unlike the Ciaz. 5-spoke alloy wheels are also a part of the Rapid. The Rapid has a flat rear end with C shaped taillight setup.
Maruti Ciaz vs Skoda Rapid: Interiors and Features
On the inside, Ciaz gets the same steering wheel as seen on the swift. Dual tone interiors with polished wooden cladding all around the cabin gives a very premium feel. Air-con vents get chrome surrounds and so does the gear lever knob. Ciaz gets an Infotainment system with a TFT display which supports Apple car play, navigation and reverse parking camera. Engine start stop button, rear air con vents and climate control is also offered on the Ciaz.
The Skoda Rapid gets dual tone interiors too with a lovely looking three-spoke steering wheel. Chrome outlines for air con vents, gear lever knob is similar to that on the Ciaz. Similar to the Ciaz, Rapid gets rear air con vents and climate control but misses out on the engine start stop button. The Skoda gets a 6.5 inch color touchscreen infotainment system with steering mounted controls.
Maruti Ciaz vs Skoda Rapid: Engine
Maruti offers the Ciaz in both diesel and petrol variants. The petrol having a 1373cc engine producing 92.5 PS and 130 Nm of torque. Diesel on the other hand gets a 1248cc churning out 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque. Petrol variant is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission while the diesel comes only with a 5-speed manual.
Skoda Rapid also comes both in Petrol and Diesel versions with a petrol engine being a 1598cc producing 105 PS and 153 Nm of torque. Diesel engine having 1498cc of displacement giving out 110 PS and 250 Nm of torque. Petrol engine is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic TipTronic transmission. While the Diesel also being offered with a 5-speed manual but gets a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Maruti Ciaz vs Skoda Rapid: Brakes, suspension and dimensions
Ventilated disc in the front and drums at the rear do the braking business on the Ciaz. ABS is offered on all the variants except the base, VXI and VDI. McPherson strut front suspension and Torsion beam rear suspension gives at-most driving comfort. Ciaz comes as long as 4490mm, width of 1730mm and a height of 1485mm. Wheelbase being 2650 mm and a good boot capacity of 510 litres.
Skoda gets front disc brakes with inner cooling and rear drum brakes are as on the Ciaz. McPherson strut front suspension and compound link crank-axle make up for the suspension system. Length 4413, width 1699, height 1466 and wheelbase 2552 (all in mm) make up the dimensions of the Rapid. Storage space is 50 litres less than that on the Ciaz.

Maruti Ciaz vs Skoda Rapid: Safety and Mileage
Maruti Ciaz offers dual front airbags on all variants except the base variant where only driver airbag is offered. The base variant misses out on ABS as well. Ciaz gets security alarm, engine immobilizer, daytime running lights, reverse parking sensor on all variants. Mileage (Fuel economy) of the petrol is claimed to be 19.1 kmpl and diesel being a whooping 28 kmpl.
Skoda on the other hand offers ABS and dual front airbags on all variants. Rapid also gets hill hold control, electronic stability control, auto dimming rear view mirrors and rear parking sensor. Mileage (Fuel economy) of the Skoda Rapid petrol is claimed to be 15.41 kmpl and that of the diesel is 21.13 kmpl.
Maruti Ciaz vs Skoda Rapid: Price
Maruti Ciaz petrol price starts from 7.53 lakh and goes upto 10.51 lakh rupees (ex-showroom Delhi) and diesel from 7.73 lakh to 9.64 lakh rupees (ex-showroom Delhi).
Skoda Rapid petrol comes between 8.28-11.36 lakh rupees (ex-showroom Delhi) and diesel Rapid comes between 9.49-12.69 lakh rupees (ex-showroom Delhi).
