Whenever Maruti Suzuki releases a new product, it sure does turn a lot of heads, with Ciaz not only has it grabbed the headlines, it has done what its predecessor, the SX4, could not achieve throughout its lifetime, get the entire nation to talk about it. With an aesthetic design to compliment the brand “Maruti Suzuki”, along with a competitive price tag, the Ciaz is sure to give its competitors many, many sleepless nights!
Right from the first glimpse, the Ciaz is sure to grab your attention, with its 4-slat grille and stylish prjector lamps married to its wide body along with a comfortable and attractive interiors, Ciaz is the long pending answer of a Saloon from the Maruti Stable. Starting from scratch and taking cues from the earlier sedans, the SX4 and Desire, Maruti has surely notched up a lot in terms of styling and features. With a lot of best in class features, including the claimed mileage of 26 kmpl, Ciaz is a class above the rest in its segment. As mentioned, the car is huge, with a roomy cabin and legroom comfortable enough fit a 6 footer in the back seat, adding to these is the 510 liters boot space which is pretty good for its class.
The Ciaz is being offered in two variants, the 1.4L petrol and 1.3L diesel and we got to test drive the 1.3L diesel
variant. As far as the handling, power, comfort there wasn’t anything special or worthy to mention as it had the “Maruti Suzuki” screaming from every nook and corner of the car. Although the interior and finishing of the car could have been better, but then again considering the price tag, its been loaded with features way above its price tag.
The dashboard is fairly simple with a 7-inch touchscreen, and its mostly a similar to the dashboard you would find in Dezire, but the higher end version has an infotainment system which is specifically designed for the Ciaz with access to telephone, music and navigation and a voice command system. Although the speciality of Ciaz is its wood finish, which could have been better, is considerably a big leap forward for Suzuki.
The engine is the next iteration of its most successful K-Series engines found in most Suzuki’s, and has been directly lifted from the Ertiga, but with a lot of modification to increase efficiency and a mind-blowing mileage of 20.73 kmpl under tested conditions, for its petrol version while the diesel goes one step ahead with 26.21kmpl, with a major factor attributing to its better mileage is its lighter chassis, made of high tensile steel, which reduces its weight by more than a 100 kgs.
On the whole the Ciaz is most suitable for the everyday average commuter who prefers less stressful and easy maintenance for a long run, rather than to look into its technical specs and performance of the enthusiasts. This, along with the brand and its competitive pricing, the Ciaz is definitely suitable for the country that prefers mileage over looks.
