Mercedes Benz India Pvt Ltd has officially issued a voluntary recall affecting a highly specific batch of its luxury performance vehicles. As of February 15, 2026, the German automaker is recalling exactly 149 units across its CLE and AMG lineups. If you are covering the luxury segment, here is the verified information you need to break the news accurately.

The Affected Mercedes-Benz Models

This recall specifically targets 149 units running on petrol. The specific models impacted by this voluntary recall include:

  • Mercedes-Benz CLE
  • Mercedes-AMG CLE
  • Mercedes-AMG C-Class

AMG C-Class206Oct 2024 to Nov 2024Petrol

The Reason for the Recall

While the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) logged this recall strictly by the numbers, the root cause requires immediate attention from owners due to a critical safety flaw.

The recall stems from a software logic error within the vehicle’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—specifically targeting the Emergency Stop Assist (ESA) function.

The Safety Risk: The ESA system acts as a fail-safe. If a driver suffers a medical emergency and removes their hands from the steering wheel, the system is designed to gradually bring the vehicle to a controlled halt and automatically dial emergency services. Due to this software glitch, the system may fail to detect driver inactivity. Consequently, the automatic braking and emergency call sequence might not activate, leaving the vehicle cruising without intervention.

Next Action Plan for Owners

Because this defect compromises a major safety layer in a high-speed luxury vehicle, Mercedes-Benz is actively working to patch the issue.

  1. Direct Communication: Mercedes-Benz India is proactively contacting the owners of the 149 affected vehicles to notify them of the software flaw.
  2. Dealership Visit: Owners must schedule a priority appointment with their nearest authorized Mercedes-Benz service center.
  3. Free Software Update: Service technicians will connect the car to their diagnostic systems and install a software patch to the ADAS control unit. This will restore the Emergency Stop Assist functionality to its intended factory parameters. The fix is provided entirely free of charge.
  4. Proactive Verification: Owners do not have to wait for an official call. They can check their vehicle’s status immediately by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the official Mercedes-Benz India website or by contacting a local dealer.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How many vehicles are affected by this recall?

A: A total of exactly 149 units are affected by this voluntary recall in India.

Q: Are diesel variants included in this recall?

A: No, the recall currently only isolates specific petrol variants of the CLE and AMG lines.

Q: Do I have to pay for the software update?

A: No. Because this is a manufacturer-issued safety recall, the diagnostic labor and the necessary software update will be performed for free at authorized Mercedes-Benz service centers.

Q: Is it safe to drive the car before the update is applied?

A: Yes, standard driving and manual braking mechanics remain completely unaffected. However, drivers should absolutely not rely on the Emergency Stop Assist feature until the software patch has been properly installed.
