Nissan Kait SUV Breaks Cover: A New Contender for the Compact SUV Segment

Nissan has officially taken the wraps off its latest compact SUV, the Nissan Kait, at an event in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Positioned as a direct competitor to popular models like the Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Tera, and Fiat Pulse, the Kait marks a significant update in Nissan’s strategy for emerging markets.

While the model has been unveiled globally, with production already underway at Nissan’s Resende-based facility in Brazil, its arrival in the Indian market remains unconfirmed. However, its design language is expected to influence upcoming Nissan SUVs in India.

Design and Dimensions

The Nissan Kait showcases a refreshed and aggressive design language.

  • Exterior: The front profile features sharper split LED headlights, dynamic LED DRLs, and a pronounced grille with horizontal slats. The side profile is accentuated by circular wheel arches, alloy wheels, and body-coloured door handles.
  • Rear: The rear gets sharper connected tail lamps, adding to its modern appeal.
  • Dimensions: The SUV measures 4.30 meters in length, 1.76 meters in width, and has a wheelbase of 2.62 meters.
  • Boot Space: It offers a practical boot space of 432 litres.

Interior and Features

Nissan claims the Kait offers “excellent interior space” and a “good level of equipment.” Globally, it will be available in four trims: Active, Sense Plus, Advance Plus, and Exclusive.

Key features include:

  • 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
  • 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
  • Wireless phone charger.
  • 360-degree camera and ADAS features.
  • Automatic and digital AC.
  • Adaptive cruise control with speed and distance monitoring.

Engine and Performance

The Nissan Kait retains the platform of the Kicks Play but updates the design. Under the hood, it shares the powertrain with the Kicks Play.

  • Engine: 1.6L naturally aspirated, flex-fuel motor.
  • Power (Ethanol): 113 bhp and 149 Nm torque.
  • Power (Petrol): 110 bhp and 146 Nm torque.
  • Transmission: CVT gearbox.
  • Mileage: Nissan has confirmed a fuel efficiency of 11 kmpl in the city.

India Relevance

While there is no official confirmation of the Kait’s launch in India, Nissan India has planned a C-segment SUV based on the third-generation Renault Duster, scheduled for early 2026. This upcoming model is expected to adopt a brand-new design language, potentially drawing inspiration from the Magnite and the newly unveiled Kait.
