Tata Altroz Makes History as India’s Safest Hatchback with a 5-Star Bharat NCAP Rating

In a landmark moment for automotive safety in India, Tata Motors has announced that its all-new Altroz premium hatchback has achieved a prestigious 5-star safety rating from Bharat NCAP (B-NCAP). This achievement cements the Altroz’s status as a pioneer in its segment, having previously secured a 5-star rating from Global NCAP in 2020. This latest milestone is particularly significant as the Altroz is the first car in its segment and body style to receive the highest 5-star rating under the Bharat NCAP protocol across all its powertrain options: petrol, diesel, and CNG. It is also the only CNG-powered car to secure a 5-star safety rating in the country.

This remarkable achievement reaffirms the Altroz’s leadership in both safety and versatility, solidifying the trust that Indian customers have in Tata Motors’ commitment to delivering dependable cars. Mr. Mohan Savarkar, Vice President & Chief Product Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., celebrated the rating, stating, “The Altroz has always been a pioneer in the premium hatchback segment. With its combination of contemporary design, advanced technology, and a multi-powertrain led approach, it truly makes the customer ‘Feel Special’”.

Behind the Rating: A Detailed Look at the Crash Test Scores

The 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP is based on a series of rigorous crash tests that evaluate a vehicle’s ability to protect its occupants in various collision scenarios. The Altroz achieved an impressive score of 29.65 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and a near-perfect 44.9 out of 49 points in Child Occupant Protection (COP).

Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) Analysis

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the Altroz scored an impressive 15.55 out of 16 points. This test demonstrated “Good” protection for the driver’s head, neck, chest, and feet, and “Adequate” protection for the driver’s legs. The co-driver’s protection was also rated “Good,” with “Adequate” protection for the right tibia.

For side impact protection, the Altroz scored 14.11 out of 16 points in the side movable deformable barrier test. This test showed “Good” protection for the head and pelvis, “Adequate” for the abdomen, and “Marginal” for the chest. The side pole impact test confirmed “Good” protection for all parts of the driver, leading to an overall “OK” rating for the test. The overall body structure and footwell area were rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loading.

Child Occupant Protection (COP) Analysis

The Altroz scored an excellent 44.90 out of 49 points in the child safety test. The child restraint systems (CRS), using ISOFIX anchorages, provided full protection for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old child dummies in side impact tests. The car received a full score of 12 out of 12 in the CRS installation score and a dynamic score of 23.90 out of 24. This strong performance is attributed to the vehicle’s reinforced body structure and standard safety features like ISOFIX child seat restraints.

The Foundation of Safety: ALFA Architecture and Diamond Strength Safety Shield

The Altroz’s exceptional safety credentials are built on Tata Motors’ proven ALFA (Agile Light Flexible Advanced) architecture. This platform is the foundation for the car’s Diamond Strength Safety Shield, which ensures enhanced structural rigidity with reinforced crumple zones. This robust body structure is engineered with ultra-high-strength steel to absorb impact energy and protect the occupants with precision.

Beyond its structural integrity, India’s safest hatchback is equipped with a comprehensive safety suite that includes six airbags, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and ISOFIX child seat restraints as standard across all trims. Other key safety features available on the Altroz include a 360° HD Surround View Camera with Blind View Monitor, Direct TPMS, SOS and Breakdown assistance, Auto Headlamps, Rain-Sensing Wipers, and LED Fog Lamps with a cornering function, all of which provide all-round protection and complete peace of mind.

Beyond Safety: A Premium and Versatile Hatchback

The Altroz elevates its premium quotient with a segment-best digital and cabin experience. Its interior is a blend of contemporary design and advanced technology. The car features a 10.25” Ultra View infotainment system by Harman™, which pairs seamlessly with a full-digital HD cluster. This system supports wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, and other features include a voice-enabled sunroof, wireless charging, and dual 65W fast chargers. The cabin is enhanced with soft-touch materials, ambient lighting, and lounge-like rear seating, which enhances comfort and luxury.

On the performance front, the Altroz stands out as the only premium hatchback in India to offer the widest powertrain range—Petrol, Diesel, and iCNG with twin-cylinder technology. The innovative twin-cylinder technology places the CNG tanks under the boot floor, liberating a decent 210L of boot space, a major advantage over other CNG cars. The car is also available with multiple transmission choices, including a Manual gearbox, AMT, and a DCA (Dual-Clutch Automatic), making it a truly versatile and premium choice in the segment.
