Tata Passenger Mobility Limited today announced a partnership with India’s leading fuel station brand HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited) in order to boost its presence in the EV charging infrastructure in India. The two companies signed an MoU to establish and improvize public charging infrastructure in India with mutual collaboration.
Open collaboration in EV Charging
- By December 2024, Tata and HPCL to together setup 5000 EV charging stations in India
- Tata and HPCL to launch a co-branded RFID card for a hassle-free charging experience
- Currently Tata Motors commands 68% market share in Electric passenger vehicles
- Mr. Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer, of Tata Motors (Passengers and Passenger Electric Mobility department) and Mr. Debashis Chakraverty of HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.) was at the announcement venue.

Leveraging TPEM’s extensive insights into EV usage and HPCL’s extensive nationwide network, this partnership has the potential to transform the charging infrastructure landscape in the country.”
Mr. Debashis Chakraverty of HPCL (Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd.) said:
HPCL with its 21000+ fuel stations has entered into an alliance with Tata Motors that commands 68% market share in Indian EV market. Through this alliance, HPCL shall leverage Tata Motors’ vehicle base to enable our strategic expansion in EV Charging infrastructure at places with higher charging demand and will help in reducing range anxiety of EV customers”
Currently HPCL has 3,050 charging units across India which includes battery swapping stations. With the partnership with Tata, HPCL aims to add an additional 5,000 touchpoints dedicated for charging EVs by December 2024. Tata Motors is doing well in the EV Space with 4 electric vehicles in its portfolio (Tiago EV, Tigor EV, Nexon EV and Punch EV). Currently there are over 1.2 lakh EVs made by Tata on Indian roads. To improve the customer experience in charging the EVs, HPCL to analyze and get insights on the usage of EV chargers.
The collaboration between these two leading companies is expected to further boost the EV growth in India.
