The GenX Indian customer is always wanting for more. A young car buyer in the year 2022 is much aware of the electric transition which is happening in the automobile industry across the globe. If you ask any one who is just out of college, what their first/next car is going to be – they would most likely say it is going to be an Electric car! Tata Motors reads the pulse of Indian people well and has accordingly brought in a MAX avatar of Nexon EV. The company has upgraded their most popular Nexon EV with extra power, extra range, more speed along with advanced safety and convenience features. What makes Nexon EV MAX the talk of the town, is because of its affordable pricing. Anyone with a budget for a Compact SUV around 15 lakhs can easily stretch a little bit and drive home an electric car manufactured by a reliable brand like Tata Motors.

So how good is the Tata Nexon EV MAX? We are here to break it down in this review. Read on

How does it look?

The Nexon EV Max looks very similar to the original Nexon EV – the blue lines across the body, the front grille, the size and proportion of the car – it is all the same as the older Nexon EV. In fact, the Max version does not even get a MAX badge at the rear. One can easily mistake the new Nexon EV MAX with the older generation Nexon EV. The Nexon MAX EV is offered in dual tone colors with blacked out roof as standard (on Intensi Teal color). There are 3 colors offered Intensi Teal, Daytona Grey and Pristine White. To sum it up, design wise it looks pretty descent and futuristic.

How does it drive?

During our test, the Tata Nexon EV MAX reached a maximum speed of 140 Kmph. It is a very torquey car – as soon as you peddle down the accelerator pedal the car zooms into the highest speed which it is capable of offering. We drove in a very wet and rainy condition in Bengaluru – and we didn’t find any difficulty driving the car in rain – It just worked flawlessly with lot of stability. We felt the steering is little hard and we also felt one should be pretty mindful about car’s regenerative braking setting as it directly has an impact on usage of accelerator and brake pedal. Overall, driving the car was a pretty smooth experience and we enjoyed the silence both inside (NVH level) and out ( Zero motor noise).

Features on offer

The Nexon EV MAX gets a truck load of features which we have listed below:

  • Wireless charging
  • Ventilated seats
  • Automatic Climate Control
  • Electronic Sunroof
  • Disc brakes on all the 4 wheels
  • 4 Levels of regenerative braking
  • Auto-Hold
  • Electronic parking brakes
  • Driving modes
  • Remote monitoring of car using ZConnect app

Price and Variants

  • Nexon EV MAX XZ+ with 3.3 kW Charger : Rs 17,74,000
  • Nexon EV MAX XZ+ with 7.2 kW AC Fast Charger : Rs 18,24,000
  • Nexon EV MAX XZ+ Lux with 3.3 kW Charger : Rs 18,74,000
  • Nexon EV MAX XZ+ Lux with 7.2 kW AC Fast Charger : Rs 19,24,000

Verdict

As you know, Tata Nexon is currently the No.3 in the best selling cars list (as of April 2022) – The company has committed to move towards electrifying most of its products in its portfolio by 2030. First launched in March 2020, Nexon EV is the first ever electric car by Tata Motors – made to look like a sibling of Nexon Petrol car. The MAX is much needed upgrade – as it gets extended range ( additional 100 kms), introduction of adjustable brake regeneration modes, more advanced equipments inside the car like wireless charging, ventilated seats, Airpurifier, Electronic sun roof, new driving modes etc.

Most importantly, the new Nexon EV gets a bigger sized battery of 40 KWh , 33% increase in size from the old generation Nexon EV whose battery capacity is 30 kWh. Tata Motors claims it has a ARAI certified range of 437 Kms per charge. At the time of testing, the digital console in the car displayed 360 kms when the battery was fully charged (100%). What is surprising is the missing Kms and sudden drop in range (as displayed by console) when its revved harder in Sports mode. The available range will further reduce when the AC is turned on. Practically, the car is capable of delivering a range of maximum 260 to 280 kms on a full charge as against to what is advertised in the marketing material.

The ZConnect app by Tata Motors when signed in, showed realtime information of the car like battery charge level. The app also provided an option to pre-cool the car.
