Tata Sierra Hyperion Sets New National Benchmark with 29.9 kmpl Fuel Efficiency
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) has established a new standard in the SUV segment with its latest entrant, the Tata Sierra. Powered by the all-new 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine, the SUV has successfully entered the India Book of Records for achieving maximum fuel efficiency over a 12-hour duration.
In a certified run conducted at the state-of-the-art NATRAX facility in Indore, the Tata Sierra delivered an exceptional mileage of 29.9 kmpl, surpassing previous national benchmarks.

The Record-Breaking Run at NATRAX
The record was executed on November 30, 2025, by the Pixel Motion team. The team drove the vehicle continuously for 12 hours, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with only brief halts scheduled for driver swaps. The feat was officially validated on the same day, confirming the Sierra’s capability to deliver high efficiency over sustained periods.
Powered by the 1.5L Hyperion Engine
At the core of this achievement is the new 1.5L Hyperion petrol engine. Tata Motors engineered this powertrain to provide a balance of high efficiency, refinement, and performance. The engine features an advanced combustion system and a friction-optimized architecture, which ensured consistent fuel delivery and stable performance throughout the grueling 12-hour run.
Mr. Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, stated that setting a national efficiency record so early in the Sierra’s journey is a proud moment for the company. He emphasized that the Hyperion engine platform was built to push the boundaries of what petrol powertrains can achieve.
Performance and Top Speed
Beyond fuel efficiency, the Tata Sierra also demonstrated formidable performance capabilities. In a parallel run at NATRAX, the SUV achieved a top speed of 222 km/h under specified test conditions.
However, Tata Motors has prioritized safety for consumer models. While the test vehicle reached speeds exceeding 200 km/h, the vehicles delivered to customers will come with a speed limiter set to 190 km/h, adhering to strict safety standards.
Important Safety Advisory
Tata Motors advises customers that these records were achieved in a controlled environment by trained expert drivers. Vehicle owners are strongly encouraged not to attempt to replicate such driving behaviors on public roads and should always follow traffic rules and posted speed limits.
