Hero Cycles’ Electric bicycle brand Lectro currently available in India is now ready to take on the UK market with its first batch of export expected to hit the British shelves in the coming months. Over 45,000 units of Lectro are likely to be exported over the next few months with the product widely expected to find resonance among the British consumers.

Hero Cycles had acquired UK-based Avocet Sports in 2015, and it will be using its already existing distribution network to make the product available to a wide section of consumers in the UK/EU market.

Designed at Hero Cycles’ Global Design Centre in Manchester, Lectro’s design philosophy is in accordance to European taste and preference. It is therefore widely expected to strike a chord with European consumers.  Lectro can be charged from a regular plug point and doesn’t need special charging stations.

The Electric bicycle market is enjoying tremendous growth in the EU where Electric-bicycle remain the fastest growing segment in the entire eco-friendly transportation arena. European consumers are increasing opting for the eco-friendly and healthy mode of transport.

Lectro is an innovative Electric-bicycle that is expected to strike a chord with a wide variety of consumers in the UK/EU – from office goers to youth to the elderly. The fact that it requires no charging stations has been a major factor in propelling its popularity since there is no ‘range anxiety’ associated with it. While the first lot of Lectro is expected to hit the market shelves in the coming months, we are working to accomplish exports of over 45,000 units over the next few months,

said, Mr. Pankaj M Munjal, Chairman, Hero Cycles Ltd.(HMC group).

Hero Cycles is also in talks for possible collaboration with a few Japanese manufacturers as the company works to usher in continuous innovation and evolution in its manufacturing technology for its Electric Drive Units upgrading the overall usage experience of its customers.

In many countries across Europe, a shift to cycling culture has helped radically bring down carbon emissions, and Electric bicycles have played a prominent role in this. Cycling is also one of the best cardio exercises for people of all age groups. It is not just a healthy way of commuting; it is also a highly environmental friendly mode of transport, especially suited to the needs of highly polluted urban centres. With Electric bicycles, cycling for longer distances becomes highly viable and this can induce automobile users to turn to cycling in their daily lives.

Highlights

  • Over 45,000 units to be exported to UK
  • The E Bicycle segment is the fastest growing component in UK/ EU Eco-friendly transportation  market
