Planning to buy a Used Maruti Swift in 2018? The Maruti Swift is a wonderful car and holds very good resale value in the used car market. Model year (2014 and above)

It is ideal to go for a used swift which is not older than four years . Look for models from 2014 – 2016 which is the second generation swift which was launched in August 2011. Second-gen Swift was updated in 2014 with more features such as Bluetooth telephone function and keyless go. The updates have certainly done their job because as of April 2015, the Swift’s India sales tally has crossed a staggering 1.3 million units.

Kilometer driven (less than 50K)

Second generation Swift comes with  the 1.2 litre K-Series petrol engine and a 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel unit . These engine generally remains in good condition unless maintained improperly though regular oil changes are required. However prefer a vehicle which is 50000 or less driven with regular service history.

Points to Check

  • Keep an ear out  for a whining sound at high pitch which indicates a bearing failure which could be expensive to fix.
  • For (diesel swift) watch out for excessive black smoke from the exhaust, indicative of clogged injectors and a poorly-maintained car.
  • Check for worn out springs and shock absorbers as these are prone to wearing out .
  • The Swift has a light clutch . If the clutch feels heavy or a stiff release there will be a clutch plate replacement on the way . However this is seen in Maruti swift clocked more than 60, 000 kilometres  .
  • Keep an ear out for plastic panel rattling
  • Check whether any warning light is flashing in the car or not. if flashing investigate before closing the deal

Where Should I buy From ?

There are three main places  for buying a used car in India – an individual, a used car broker and the franchised pre-owned dealer.

  • An individual certainly will be the easiest choice if the seller is known to you. There’s no middleman involved to make a quick buck out of the transaction and gives way to fix a good price. Used car classifieds in newspapers, and websites are also a fast way of getting in touch with private sellers.
  • Dealers and brokers are known for quoting very high price so always be sure to bargain because the quoted price has some room for negotiation.
  • The franchised pre-owned dealer like Maruti Suzuki True Value and Mahindra First Choice to name some, is the costliest option for a used car. But this extra price is for the peace of mind with regards to the condition of the vehicles. The cars are professionally inspected before being put on sale, and most retailers also add benefits like service packages and warranties. The transparent paperwork and buying experience also make this largely a fuss-free transaction. Prices at such retailers are often said to be fixed but you can bargain for sure.
