Honda WR-V will be the next crossover from Honda; Not HR-V

Honda Jazz RS

Honda WR-V is  going to be the next crossover that will be launched in India, after the Honda BR-V launch. Honda is working on a new crossover not just for India but also for South American market. The Honda WR-V will be entirely based on the Honda Jazz platform. There is already the HR-V/Vezel that has been made on the Jazz platform, but the WR-V is being made for developing car markets like Brazil and India.

Honda WR-V will be unveiled at the Sao Paolo Motor Show in Brazil this year and expect it to come to India by next year. The Honda WR-V will get the same set of engine options like the Jazz. 1.2-litre petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel. The Honda brand is looking at adding more new products and refreshes to its line-up.

Honda WR-V is expected to be priced about INR 65,000 more than that of Jazz so that the pricing would be about INR 7.5 lakhs to INR 10.5 lakhs (on-road). The Honda WR-V will come with extra  ground clearance.

Competition for Honda WR-V

While the upcoming Honda BR-V is a 7-seater and would be competition against other compact SUVs like Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and Nissan Terrano, the car which we are currently talking about, the Honda WR-V which is essentially a compact crossover would be targeting the compact segment as well.

The WR-V from Honda will be essentially competing with cars like Ecosport in Brazil as well. The Honda WR-V would be getting a muscular looks which would look more like an SUV ( Sports Utility Vehicle) than a crossover.

The Japanese automaker, Honda does not want to miss out on this segment as the compact crossover segment has been on the rise. The new Maruti Vitara Brezza would also be making the competition tough. Hyundai i20 Active, Ford Ecosport are the other key competitors for Honda WR-V.

Will not Honda HR-V make it to Indian market?

The upcoming Honda HR-V will be based on Honda Jazz platform and is also going to be pretty expensive keeping the developing markets in mind. WR-V has been designed to compete with the likings of Hyundai Creta, overlapping with Honda BR-V. Honda is also looking at developing the WR-V for developing markets and not the HR-V. The recent Economic Times report clarifies that it will not be the HR-V, instead it will be a WR-V. There are a lot of rumours across the country about the HR-V’s which is not true.
