VinFast Auto India has announced a significant step in its local operations. The Indian subsidiary of the global EV leader today inducted its first cohort of 200 locally hired professionals. This team will join the workforce at VinFast’s soon-to-be-inaugurated EV factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
This initial hiring phase is part of a larger vision. In fact, VinFast expects the facility to create jobs for up to 3,500 professionals over the next five years. The company plans to hire in phases to match the plant’s growth. This move underscores VinFast’s commitment to investing in local talent and fostering regional economic development.

Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia, commented on the initiative. He said, “
As we ramp up our operations in India, we are proud to invest in the people and potential of Tamil Nadu”. He added, “This facility stands as a catalyst for regional growth as well as in building a resilient, inclusive, and high-performance manufacturing ecosystem that can serve both Indian and global markets”.
A Collaborative Approach to Skill Development
This entire onboarding initiative resulted from close collaboration with the Tamil Nadu government. The hiring aligns with ‘Naan Mudhalvan,’ the government’s flagship skilling program that equips local youth with industry-relevant skills. This partnership was also facilitated by Guidance Tamil Nadu’s WorkLabs Cell, which forges strategic links between academic institutions and industry needs.

The selection process followed a large-scale recruitment drive in April this year. It included a two-month institutional training program, assessments, and interviews led by the District Administration. Now, all selected candidates are receiving training to meet global automotive standards under expert guidance.
Building a Future-Ready Workforce
VinFast’s workforce strategy for the plant follows a hybrid 80:20 model. Under this model, 80% of the workforce will be freshers from local communities. The remaining 20% will be experienced Indian and expatriate professionals from leading OEMs. This approach ensures a blend of fresh talent and seasoned expertise.
The Thoothukudi plant is a strategic pillar in VinFast’s Asian growth story. As the plant scales up to its 150,000-vehicle annual capacity, it will launch VinFast’s first two products in India. These products are the VF 6 and VF 7 premium electric SUVs. To support this, the company is also establishing a dealership network and developing EV charging infrastructure to accelerate EV adoption in India.
