Volvo Car India has announced a significant expansion of its Reverse Project, a dedicated CSR initiative focused on environmental restoration. Under this latest phase, the company will support the plantation of over 20,000 native trees across 20 acres of land in the Aravalli range.

Volvo Car India The Reverse Project - Aravallis

Restoring the Aravalli Ecosystem

The new plantation drive is situated at Matri Van, located along the Gurugram-Faridabad Highway. This project is part of the broader Community Barren Land Transformation Project, executed in partnership with the Sankalp Taru Foundation and the Haryana Forest Department.

The Aravalli range acts as a critical green barrier protecting the Delhi-NCR region from air pollution and desertification. However, decades of urbanization and quarrying have left the landscape severely degraded, characterized by eroded soils and sparse vegetation. Volvo’s initiative aims to revive this semi-arid terrain into a thriving, self-sustaining forest ecosystem.

Leveraging Technology for Sustainability

A standout feature of the Reverse Project is its use of modern technology to ensure high survival rates for the saplings:

  • Geo-tagging: Every plant in the project is geo-tagged, allowing for precise location tracking.
  • IoT Monitoring: The project utilizes Internet of Things (IoT) enabled monitoring to track the health and growth of the forest in real-time.
  • Community Engagement: The initiative involves local communities to ensure long-term care and protection of the newly planted forest.

This effort follows the success of last year’s initiative in Ghaziabad, where Volvo Car India transformed an urban dump yard into a lush forest by planting over 35,000 trees.

Volvo’s Commitment to India

Established in India in 2007, Volvo Cars has built a strong reputation for safety and sustainability. The company currently operates through 25 dealerships in major cities including Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Mumbai, and Pune. This latest CSR move reinforces the brand’s global mission to take meaningful climate action through purpose-driven partnerships.
