The Guerrilla 450 Apex is a decent street motorcycle from Royal Enfield – The recently launched Apex version gets some stunning new color schemes along with the tyre upgrade. You can check photos of the Guerrilla 450 in Apex Black along with our quick impressions on design and looks.

There is a mixed verdict on how the new Guerrilla 450 rides, performs on city roads and highways. After taking this motorcycle for a long ride to Nandi Hills, Nikhil Thorvat, a bike expert in our team has shared following ride impressions / rants. What follows below are some in person observations and counters by GaadiKey.

Rant No.1

Nikhil: It is not a friendly motorcycle for daily, signal to signal city commutes, especially in sport mode. The throttle modulation needs sometime to get used to. Although, this is completely the opposite on the highway.

GaadiKey: The 452cc liquid-cooled Sherpa engine is inherently high-revving and eager, which explains the aggressive initial throttle response in Sport/Performance mode. However, toggling the bike into Eco mode noticeably smooths out the ride-by-wire throttle curve. This significantly reduces low-speed snatchiness, making signal-to-signal commuting much easier to modulate once the electronic throttle calibration becomes familiar.

Rant No. 2

Nikhil: The riding posture is too sport for highway riding and too uncomfortable for city use with packed traffic. The sweet spot was felt during spirited riding, and a constant riding above 3000rpm is when the bike truly comes alive.

GaadiKey: The posture reflects the Guerrilla’s core identity as an aggressive roadster rather than a relaxed cruiser. An accessible 780mm seat height allows riders to flat-foot comfortably in heavy traffic. The slightly committed riding triangle—featuring mid-set footpegs and lower handlebars—delivers sharp front-end feedback and cornering control. Furthermore, peak torque (40 Nm @ 5,500 rpm) resides in the mid-range, making 3,000 rpm and above the intended operating band for dynamic power delivery.

Rant No. 3

Nikhil: The equipment on offer is good in terms of touch and feel and functionality, but the design itself (high and low bean toggle and pass light) is unconventional and needs time getting used to.

GaadiKey: Royal Enfield designed this integrated joystick/toggle switch to declutter the left switchbox across its Sherpa 452 platform. While combining the pass light and beam switch into a single toggle differs from traditional separate buttons, it minimizes hand movements once muscle memory kicks in, offering a cleaner look and solid tactile feedback.

Royal Enfield Perception vs. GaadiKey Reality Check

Marketing brochures tell one side of the story, but real-world tarmac reveals the rest. Here is how Royal Enfield’s positioning of the Guerrilla 450 compares against our fact-driven riding tests, specs, and ownership reality.

1. “The Most Fun Royal Enfield Yet”

RE Marketing Narrative: As Royal Enfield evolves beyond cruisers and tourers, the Guerrilla Apex represents a more engaging, agile, and corner-hungry side of the brand.

GaadiKey Reality Check & Engine Specs: It is undeniably Royal Enfield’s most dynamic roadster to date. Powered by the liquid-cooled 452cc single-cylinder DOHC 4-valve “Sherpa” engine, it pushes out 40.02 PS at 8,000 rpm and 40 Nm of torque at 5,500 rpm paired with a 6-speed gearbox. It completely abandons the traditional, lazy thumper pulse for a high-revving top-end punch reaching up to 140 km/h. However, “fun” requires keeping the motor above 3,500 rpm—riders looking for low-RPM chugging will find the powerband lacking in low-end grunt.

2. “Performance Without the Intimidation”

RE Marketing Narrative: Not every rider wants an extreme streetfighter. The Guerrilla delivers accessible performance with everyday usability.

GaadiKey Reality Check & Ergonomics: Intimidation is kept low primarily through its accessible body geometry rather than a detuned engine. A low 780mm seat height allows short and medium-stature riders to flat-foot comfortably, while a well-balanced 184kg kerb weight and a slip-and-assist clutch keep low-speed maneuvering manageable. Don’t mistake accessibility for a mild motorcycle, though—the ride-by-wire throttle in Sport mode can easily catch inexperienced riders off-guard with its initial snatchiness.

3. “The Urban Hooligan Formula”

RE Marketing Narrative: Agile enough for weekday commutes, exciting enough for Sunday rides.

GaadiKey Reality Check & Feature Tech: 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in wide tubeless radial tyres (120/70 front, 160/60 rear) provide sharp tip-in and grip for darting through traffic. Feature tech varies significantly by variant: base Analogue trims feature a basic pod, while Dash, Flash, and Apex trims feature a 4-inch TFT display with full Google Maps integration. The major daily compromise is tank capacity: the compact 11-litre fuel tank yields a real-world riding range of ~280–300 km (at an average mileage of 29.5 kmpl), requiring frequent fuel stops.

4. “Built for Weekend Escapes”

RE Marketing Narrative: Positioning the Guerrilla Apex as the ideal companion for twisties, hill roads, and spirited weekend riding.

GaadiKey Reality Check & Suspension: On twisty tarmac, the 43mm front telescopic forks (140mm travel) and linkage-type rear monoshock (150mm travel), backed by 310mm front and 270mm rear disc brakes with dual-channel ABS, hold lines into corners effortlessly.
