The all new Toyota Hilux Off-road SUV has been launched few months ago at a starting price of Rs 31.99 lakhs (ex-showroom price). Hilux is launched in 3 different variants 4X4 VX, AT, 4X4 GX, AT and 4X2 GX, AT (the base model). The ex-showroom price of new Hilux top variant 4×4 VX is priced at Rs 36.69 lakhs (ex-showroom), the mid variant 4×4 GX is priced at Rs 33.69 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the base variant 4X2 GX is available at an introductory price of Rs 31.99 lakhs (ex-showroom) – all these new Hilux models have an automatic transmission.
It was an experiential off-road drive organised at Dirty Drivez (located outskirts of Bangalore) primarily aimed at customers to demonstrate Toyota Hilux’s off-road capabilities on real off-road conditions like mud, pool of water, ascent and descent etc. As auto journalists we wanted to check following capabilities: Four-wheel-drive capability with High (H4) and Low (L4) range modes, Electronic Differential Lock, Downhill Assist Control (DAC), suspension setup in front and the rear.
It was extremely hot on the day when this event happened, it was a very average Toyota experience, however, the track drive was neatly organized and all protocols were followed. There was a dedicated instructor sitting next to the driver, assisting and explaining on how to take on different off-road conditions and obstacles – it was about 20 minute session having waited for an eternity to get our slot. In our particular car, there was however no seat belt present for the rear seat passenger ( it was quite concerning especially while descending from the Hill setup).
