All Hero Models to Receive E85 Flex Fuel Engine Within Two Years

Hero MotoCorp has confirmed its strategy to introduce flex-fuel versions across its entire range of two-wheelers within the next one to two years. The initiative officially commences with the launch of the E85-compliant Splendor Plus and HF Deluxe, two of the brand’s highest-selling models. The rollout for these initial vehicles is scheduled to begin in 2026, with availability starting in Delhi and other select regions.

Accelerating Ethanol Adoption in India

The transition to alternative fuels directly supports government efforts to mandate an 85 percent ethanol blend in petrol, widely known as E85, to decrease national dependence on crude oil imports. This strategy aligns with the government’s broader attempts to modify policy frameworks to facilitate affordable adoption among consumers. Hero is prepared to release its flex-fuel portfolio but will pace the introduction to match the expanding linkage and availability of ethanol across the country.

Research, Development, and Retrofitting Options

The engineering and development for these new powertrain systems are being conducted at Hero’s Centre for Innovation and Technology (CIT) based in Jaipur. Beyond producing new motorcycles, the company is actively developing E85 retrofit kits designed specifically for older BS6-compliant two-wheelers. Additionally, Hero has affirmed that these new engines can be re-engineered to run entirely on ethanol, achieving E100 compliance.
