Great Wall Motors is a popular automaker, the largest SUV and pickup truck manufacturer which is based out of China. India is now a couple of years short to see the advent of a brand new Chinese car brand “Great Wall” following the SAIC owned MG Motor India which is currently making news for its upcoming pure electric car for India – The MarvelX.

The Chinese GreatWall is currently present in India in the domain of software development, artificial  intelligence for the electric cars. Various sources have confirmed that the Great Wall is actively involved in hiring resources for its upcoming automotive business in India. Great Wall is looking to make it to India by the year 2021-22.

There are reports that Mr Kaushik Ganguly of Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer has been recently hired by the Great Wall to strategize its plan for India and run the business here.
Mr Ganguly played a key role in the product planning department at Maruti Suzuki.

Great Wall Motors has done an intense research from last years to check its viability for Indian market. India’s growing per-capita income, growth in the SUV segment and Indian Government’s role in pushing the EV tech to auto industry has spawned Chinese Great Wall Motors to roll-out its business in India market.

Talking about the brand Great Wall, the company has managed to post an annual sales at 1.06 million units in the year 2017. Great Wall’s product portfolio consists of a range of SUVs – right from the entry level compact SUV cars to luxury SUV cars like Land Cruiser.

The Great Wall runs its operations under 4 different brands meeting the expectations and demands of people from particular niche. While the brands Great Wall and Havel focuses on the mass market, the brand Wey focuses on luxury cars and the brand ORA is fully focussed towards EV segment which are specifically made for the youth.

Before Great Wall, SAIC’s MG Motor India shall begin its operations in India on 2nd half of 2019. So India is soon going to see lot of action from the Chinese car brands.
