Introduction
We were pleasantly surprised to test a range of motorcycles from Hero MotoCorp in Bengaluru. Out of the 4 two-wheelers which Hero offered us we picked the bike with a bigger engine – the Mavrick 440 to review first. At GaadiKey, we have done quite a lot of reviews of motorcycles in the premium category like Apache RTR 310, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 etc and have been to launches of Triumph Speed 400, New Jawa motorcycles etc. The brand Hero is a No.1 two-wheeler manufacturer in India and are pioneers in building value motorcycles typically in the lower cc category which are affordable and are highly fuel efficient like the Splendor, HF Deluxe, Passion, Glamour etc.
The recently introduced Mavrick 440 stands on top of everything, it is positioned as a premium bike after Xtreme and XPulse, gets a very big engine and of course it is priced at premium as well. Can the all new Hero Mavrick 440 make it big in an unknown territory for Hero? How does it look? How is the performance and handling? What is the mileage? Does it score better than its competition? Design, Looks, Ergonomics
The all new Hero Mavrick 440 looks very appealing and has a great road presence. Mavrick features a round LED headlamp with DRLs with circular shaped LED indicators in the front and the back. The motorcycle’s metallic fairing at its neck further adds to its beauty. The 3D badge of Mavrick logo on the muscular fuel tank gives it a very dominating look.. The appearance of Hero Mavrick 440 is further enhanced with large disc brakes in the front and diamond-cut alloy wheels with dual-tone color options, The motorcycle features spring loaded dual shock absorbers at the back and has a typical Hero tail lamp at the back.
Front Console / Speedometer
We really liked the design of digital console in the front. It only shows what the rider wants – it is designed very well with the use of contrasting fonts, dual-color graphics includes the all important Speedometer, Tachometer, Fuel gauge, Distance-to-empty reading, Odometer, gear indicator and other engine, side stand, service related indicators.
Every useful info is packed really well with a small dial shaped front digital console , so that more time is spent looking at the road. There is a dedicated display area to show navigation info via Hero Connect e-sim based service (which we couldnt test due to lack of VIN registration). The e-sim based Hero connect app can be paired to your phone as well, this feature is available only on top variants of Mavrick 440. You can also find a dedicated USB port in the front to charge your phone on the go.

Talking about the electrical system, the headlamp, DRLs, indicators, stop lamps are all LED.
Performance and Handling
Let’s talk about how the motorcycle rides on actual roads. On a typical asphalted roads, the Mavrick cruises really well – the power delivery is gradual and it feels nice that way. You cannot expect a quick boost in power delivery as soon as you hold the throttle, you will have to wait and take control. The engine is so refined and the clutch is very very easy to operate, the gear shifts happen smoothly. It is a pleasure to ride and discover the motorcycle’s ability in every single gear. The exhaust sound is pleasure to ears.
Within the city, we rode the motorcycle in the range of 80-100 kmph comfortably and experienced that aha moment. There were no noticeable vibrations even in higher speeds. The motorcycle is so good to take on curvy roads and offers a good support to rider while cornering. We really appreciate the ride quality, ability to maneuver and stability which the Mavrick 440 offered.
Although we did not test this motorcycle on highways much, the bike was comfortable around the speeds of 105-110 kmph as noticed from our limited time test on highway. The fuel efficiency of Mavrick was quite avaerage, while the brochure claims a fuel economy of 35 kmpl, we hardly got a mileage of around 25-28 kmpl.
Brakes and Suspension
The motorcycle has a very practical suspension system in the front and in the rear. The telescopic suspension of 43 mm travel was amazing enough to absorb the unevenness of the road. The rear suspension too was great and the pillion had no reason to complain, The riding triangle for rider is very ergonomical. The pillion seats were wide and comfortable for your co-passenger.
Talking about the brakes, the dual-channel ABS system work really great. It makes you feel comfortable riding on wet patches during rainy days. The dual- disc brake setup is good. The brake byte was instantaneous and was good enough to bring the bike to sudden hault.
On a very rough terrain filled with jelly stones, the motorcycle didn’t perform as expected and got restarted twice with wheel spins.

Verdict
The all new Mavrick 440 is an amazing product from Hero. The motorcycle is premium, engine is very refined, the ride quality is excellent, suspension and brakes work superb. The motorcycle has the potential to beat the likings of Triumph Speed 400, New TVS Apache RTR 310, Royal Enfield Guerilla 450 etc. Although this is the very first motorcycle by Hero in the higher cc category, the company has done a great job meeting the expectation of a premium motorcycle buyer. Let Hero bring more and more premium motorcycles to India.
