Honda Asia Road Racing Championship

This weekend is set to a landmark year for motorsports in India as racing aficionados of the country will witness international level racing action. The Buddh International Circuit (Greater Noida) is all set to host the Round 5 of Asia Road Racing Championship 2016 (ARRC) and Asia Dream Cup 2016 in Indian soil from September 30 to October 2, 2016.

With over 700 Moto GP wins and inching towards Triple Crown victory in 2016 MotoGP globally, Honda is a brand synonymous with racing worldwide. Extending its Racing DNA in India even further, Honda2Wheelers India is proud to sponsor the Indian contingent that will take on the best of racers from across Asia.

Fulfilling their long standing dream to represent India on international-stage, and to be able to do in in front of home-crowd will be Sarath Kumar, Hari Krishnan and Sethu Rajiv.

Leading Honda 2Wheeler India’s assault from the front will be the 24 year old Indian racer Sarath Kumar (bike # 69). The two-time Honda One Make Race Champion (2014 and 2013) is the first-Indian rider to participate in 125GP and Moto-3 CEV Championship and the first to get a podium finish in 2014 season of Asia Dream Cup. Recognizing his immense talent, Honda has sponsored him to the Asia Road Racing Championship. Here he is set to challenge Asia’s best racers in the most closely contested Super Sports 600cc segment.

The 22 year old engineer Hari Krishnan (bike # 17) has been in a prolific form in his 2nd season at the Asia Dream Cup. This season he is in full form and has already created history as the only Indian racer to have bagged 2 podium finishes (Second at Round 2 in Thailand; and Third at Round 3 in Japan) in the first 3 rounds. His aggressive racing style coupled with technical background helps him in bettering his racing craft in every race.

Completing the trio of Honda racers is one of India’s most promising young racer Sethu Rajiv (bike # 18). The 19 year old started professional racing in 2013 and with his quick learning ability won multiple podium finishes in CBR 250R Honda One Make Race Championship. 2016 marks his international racing debut in the Asia Dream Cup.

Sharing details about Honda’s impressive line-up in the motorsport weekend ahead, Mr. Prabhu Nagaraj, Vice President – Customer Service, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd. (HMSI) said,

We are rooting for strong performances and podium finishes by the Indian contingent of Sarath Kumar, Hari Krishnan and Sethu Rajiv. Honda wants to popularize motorsport culture in India. As first step, we have handpicked the best talent from India and planned their career progression right teaching racing basics at grass-root level (Honda Ten 10 Racing Academy) to giving a national platform (Honda One Make Race) and taking India’s best riders global (Asia Dream Cup / Asia Road Racing Championship). Our objective is to see Asia’s riders grow and hopefully represent Asia in the coveted Moto3 and later Moto GP championships.

About Asia Road Racing Championship: Introduced in 1996, the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship is the largest motorcycle racing series in Asia. The production series features three open-make categories (SuperSports 600cc, Asia Production 250cc and Underbone 130cc) as well as single manufacturer Asian platform like Honda’s Asia Dream Cup.

About Asia Dream Cup: The Asia Dream Cup, a part of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship, is an intense 6 round motorcycle racing championship conducted by Honda aimed at developing motorsport riders across the world. 19 racers from 12 countries across Asia (Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taipei, Vietnam, Singapore and India) raced on specially modified CBR 250Rs in Asia’s best race tracks.
