Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for the Indian market, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and sustainability. The automaker plans to launch 26 new products by the end of the financial year 2030, comprising a mix of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, electric vehicles (EVs), and hybrid models. This aggressive expansion strategy highlights Hyundai’s focus on catering to diverse customer needs while transitioning towards eco-friendly mobility solutions.

Hyundai’s 2030 Product Launch Strategy

1. 20 New ICE Models

Hyundai will continue strengthening its presence in the traditional fuel segment with 20 new ICE vehicles, including:

  • New generation models (full model changes)
  • Product enhancements (facelifts & feature upgrades)
  • Expansion into new segments (possibly compact SUVs, premium sedans)

This ensures Hyundai retains its stronghold in India’s mass-market and premium segments, where ICE vehicles still dominate.

2. 6 New Electric Vehicles (EVs)

As part of its electrification push, Hyundai will introduce 6 new EVs in India by 2030. These could include:

  • Affordable mass-market EVs (possibly an electric version of the Grand i10 or Aura)
  • Premium electric SUVs (like the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV)
  • Long-range EVs with competitive pricing to rival Tata, Mahindra, and MG

Hyundai’s EV strategy aligns with India’s growing demand for sustainable mobility and stricter emission norms.

3. Introduction of Hybrid Powertrains

Recognizing the gradual shift towards cleaner technologies, Hyundai will also introduce hybrid powertrains in select models. These could include:

  • Strong hybrid versions of popular cars like the Creta & Verna
  • Mild-hybrid options for better fuel efficiency

Hybrids act as a bridge between ICE and EVs, appealing to customers hesitant about full electrification.

Hyundai’s Vision for the Indian Market

Mr. Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India Limited, stated:

“We remain steadfast in expanding a well-balanced portfolio across ICE and eco-friendly technologies, to cater to diverse customer needs across segments.”

  • Market Responsiveness: Hyundai aims to address both urban and rural demand with varied product offerings.
  • Sustainability Push: EVs and hybrids will play a crucial role in Hyundai’s carbon-neutral goals.
  • Localization & Affordability: Increased local manufacturing to keep prices competitive.

Challenges & Opportunities in the Indian Market

  • EV Adoption Barriers: High upfront costs and charging infrastructure gaps remain challenges.
  • Strong ICE Demand: Traditional fuel vehicles will dominate for years, justifying Hyundai’s 20 new ICE launches.
  • Government Policies: Incentives like FAME II and state subsidies will boost EV adoption.
