Mahindra and HPCL EV Charging: Revolutionizing India’s Electric Mobility Network

India’s electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem is experiencing a massive transformation, driven by strategic infrastructure expansions. A pivotal part of this evolution is the synergy between leading automobile manufacturers like Mahindra & Mahindra and massive energy providers like Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). By leveraging HPCL’s vast retail fuel network and integrating advanced fast-charging technologies, the landscape for EV owners is becoming more accessible, reliable, and efficient.

The Power of Synergy in EV Infrastructure

The transition to electric mobility heavily relies on the availability of robust public charging networks. Mahindra has been actively expanding its EV portfolio, including the launch of its dedicated electric SUVs. To support this, ensuring customers have access to widespread charging points is critical. HPCL, transitioning from a traditional oil marketing company to a holistic energy provider, operates over 5,300 EV charging stations across India under the HP e-Charge brand.

Through strategic integrations and partnerships with charging network aggregators like Statiq and Kazam, Mahindra EV owners can seamlessly tap into HPCL’s expansive charging infrastructure. This interconnected approach minimizes range anxiety and makes long-distance interstate travel a reality for electric vehicle users.

Mahindra’s CHARGE_iN Initiative

Mahindra has introduced its CHARGE_iN ecosystem to provide a next-generation public EV charging network. The focus is on delivering ultrafast and dependable charging for all EV users.

Key features of this initiative include:

  • Ultrafast 180 kW Charging: Designed to give a quick power boost during highway trips, allowing compatible Mahindra eSUVs to go from 20% to 80% state of charge in just 20 minutes.
  • App-Based Convenience: The CHARGE_iN app enables users to locate nearby stations, plan trips, reserve charging slots, and execute digital payments seamlessly.
  • Open Access: While built to enhance the Mahindra ownership experience, the charging network is open and accessible to all electric four-wheeler users equipped with CCS2 connectors.
  • Strategic Highway Corridors: Charging stations are actively being deployed at premium mid-way outlets and toll plazas featuring quality restaurants and clean amenities, ensuring comfortable charging breaks.

HPCL’s Massive Nationwide Footprint

HPCL has aggressively expanded its electric vehicle charging points to align with the Government of India’s green mobility goals. By utilizing its existing network of over 24,000 retail fuel pumps, HPCL has already integrated over 5,300 EV chargers, including a significant proportion of DC fast chargers.

For a Mahindra EV owner, this means that finding a fast charger on major highways in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu is becoming as easy as finding a conventional petrol pump.

Benefits for the Consumer

The expansion of Mahindra-supported charging networks alongside HPCL’s massive infrastructure rollout provides several direct benefits to the consumer:

  1. Reduced Range Anxiety: High-density charger placement across urban centers and highways ensures drivers are never too far from a plug.
  2. Time Efficiency: The focus on high-capacity DC fast chargers (up to 180 kW) drastically reduces wait times compared to older 30 kW or 50 kW units.
  3. Unified Digital Experience: Through interoperability and Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) protocols, drivers can use a single app to find, navigate, and pay at various charging stations, including those operated by HPCL.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
