India’s most desirable luxury automotive brand Mercedes-Benz today announced the start of local production of the much-awaited all-new Long Wheelbase (LWB) E-Class. Mercedes-Benz rolled out the most advanced E-Class till date in India, from the assembly line of its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune; underlining the company’s pioneering spirit and commitment to ‘Make in India, for India’. The New LWB E-Class in its sixth generation will make its India debut on 9-October, 2024 creating a gold standard in the luxury car segment, with its first-class luxury cabin, unmatched personalization and interactivity options achieved with cutting-edge technology onboard, and state-of-art safety equipment synonymous with Mercedes-Benz.

Local production of the all-new LWB E-Class:

Local production of the all-new LWB E-Class showcases stringent global quality standards of Mercedes-Benz. It is the continuous and seamless transfer of knowledge between ‘E-Class production competence centre’ in Sindelfingen, Germany and the talented Indian operations in Pune, that results in achieving benchmark in quality and production excellence. The increasing trend towards digitization and customization is very well demonstrated in the local production of the new LWB E-Class. Assembly of numerous technological innovations together, including the sophisticated MBUX as well as high-end safety and digital assistance systems means, every vehicle running off the production line in India is exceptional.

Vyankatesh Kulkarni, Executive Director and Head of Operations, Mercedes-Benz India said,

With this new LWB E-Class, we have further deepened and expanded our localization footprint by sourcing various commodities from India, emphasizing our dedication to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. We are immensely proud of our expert team who are highly skilled, motivated and agile in manufacturing both world-class ICE and BEV products as per market requirements.”

Unique features and processes applied in the production of the New LWB E-Class:

  • The new bodyshop automated line for rear floor is setting the highest standards of quality, precision, and efficiency. With cutting-edge robotics, intelligent automation and state-of-the-art joining technologies, Mercedes-Benz sets benchmark for the body shop production in the Indian manufacturing ecosystem.

  • The center airbag introduced in the all-new E-Class can protect the driver and front passenger from colliding, in the event of a side collision. It is installed in the seat cushion on the driver’s seat and is triggered in the event of a collision.
  • The car is equipped with the best-in-class MBUX Super-screen with latest technology having 2 stage blocking system for the passenger screen allowing the driver, a seamless driving experience while the front passenger can enjoy gaming, TV Programs, video streaming: allowing the front passenger their own personal display and control area.


Local production of the LWB E-Class is supported by robust supply chain that focuses on ‘Make in India’ processes and spans multiple continents, seamlessly connecting diverse regions of the world to India and delivering unmatched excellence for customers.

  • Mercedes-Benz commences the local production of the all-new Long Wheelbase (LWB) E-Class from its world-class manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune
  • The New LWB E-Class 200 received the CMVR Type Approval (Homologation) Certificate from the ARAI, after completing rigorous testing across various locations in India (Pune, Chennai, Indore) and abroad like in Germany and Spain
  • Homologation tests comprised key ones like BS 6-2 emission tests, crash tests, pedestrian protection tests and equipment tests among others
  • India is the sole global market to produce the LWB E-Class in its RHD version
  • Mercedes-Benz India has been manufacturing the E-Class in India since 1995, the first-ever car to roll-out of the company’s assembly line in 1995 | The New E-Class will be the sixth generation of E-Class
  • The LWB E-Class also remains Mercedes-Benz’s highest-selling model in India
  • Currently bookings are open for the New Long Wheelbase E-Class, which is debuting on 9-Oct’ 24
