The Highly Anticipated Launch of the New Renault Triber

Renault is gearing up for a significant overhaul of its popular sub-4-meter utility vehicle in the Indian market. The automotive landscape is buzzing with excitement as the new generation of the MPV prepares to make its debut. With increasing competition in the affordable 7-seater segment, Renault is implementing massive structural and mechanical upgrades to ensure its flagship family carrier remains at the top of the sales charts.

According to recent strategic updates, the French automaker is preparing a comprehensive transformation of its lineup, which includes the launch of seven new models and two architectures, namely RGEP and RGMP. This bold move signifies a complete generation leap rather than a simple mid-life cosmetic facelift. For buyers seeking an optimal blend of affordability, spaciousness, and modern technology, the upcoming iteration promises to deliver heavily on all fronts. As we dive deeper into the expected specifications, features, and platform changes, it becomes clear that this is a vehicle designed to meet the evolving needs of the modern consumer who demands both performance and practicality.

Transitioning to the Advanced RGMP Architecture

One of the most crucial and foundational updates coming to the MPV is its underlying structure. Interestingly, all existing Renault models Kwid, Triber and Kiger will switch to the new RGMP (Renault Group Entry Platform) architecture, which debuted with the new Duster.

This transition is not merely a background engineering footnote; it represents a massive leap in capability and future readiness. This platform supports multiple body styles, drivetrains and powertrains including petrol, electric, hybrid and CNG. By moving to the RGMP framework, the vehicle will inherently benefit from enhanced structural rigidity, superior driving dynamics, and a versatile design that allows for varied and complex powertrain integrations. It lays the groundwork for a much more sophisticated, safe, and capable family vehicle suitable for both city commutes and long highway journeys.

Powerful 1.0L Turbo Petrol Engine and CVT Options

Performance and highway drivability have often been heavily discussed points for the current generation, but the upcoming model is set to change that narrative completely. After a long wait, the Renault Triber is set to receive the 1.0L, three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, generating power worth 100bhp and 160Nm of torque.

This significant bump in overall power will completely transform the driving experience, especially when the cabin is fully loaded with passengers or when executing high-speed overtakes on the highway. To complement this powerful new engine, it will be available with two gearbox options manual and CVT. The introduction of a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) is particularly exciting for urban drivers, offering a significantly smoother, more refined, and jerk-free automatic driving experience compared to traditional AMT setups found in budget segments.

Innovative Factory-Fitted Underbody CNG Kit

Fuel efficiency remains a paramount concern for Indian buyers. Renault is tackling this by leveraging its new platform’s clever packaging capabilities. With the RGMP platform enabling underfloor CNG placement, the updated Kwid, Triber and Kiger will be available with a factory-fitted CNG kit by Diwali 2026. Currently, these models are offered with dealer-level retrofitted CNG option.

The most impressive aspect of this update is how it addresses the biggest drawback of CNG vehicles: luggage capacity. The underfloor CNG placement will help retain usable boot space, which is usually compromised in conventional CNG fitting. Furthermore, the factory-fitted, underbody CNG kit will be offered with the turbo petrol engine as well. This combination of turbocharged power and CNG fuel economy is a highly desirable proposition in the Indian market, ensuring incredibly low running costs without sacrificing engine performance or family luggage space.

Current Specifications vs. Expected Upgrades

To truly appreciate the scale of these upcoming updates, it is helpful to look at the vehicle’s current standing in the market. Currently, the Triber is available with a 1.0L, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a automatic transmission. The MPV lineup is available in four trims Authentic, Evolution, Techno and Emotion, priced between Rs 5.76 lakh 8.60 Rs lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of interior equipment, the current generation is already packed with utility. Key features include a 7-inch TFT digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, day/night IRVM, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear camera, and more. While these existing features provide excellent value for money, the upcoming introduction of a turbocharged engine, an advanced CVT gearbox, and a space-saving CNG technology will elevate the MPV to a completely different tier of desirability.

The Rivalry: Will It Be Better Than the New Nissan Gravite?

The recent launch of the Nissan Gravite at an introductory price of Rs 5.65 Lakh has shaken up the affordable 7-seater segment. The Gravite is a badge-engineered model based on the current-generation Renault Triber, sharing its core platform and the 72bhp naturally aspirated engine.

When comparing the upcoming new Renault Triber to the recently launched Nissan Gravite, the advantages of the upcoming French offering become immediately apparent:

  • Performance Advantage: The new Triber will feature a highly capable 100bhp turbo-petrol engine, whereas the current Gravite relies entirely on the older naturally aspirated unit.
  • Transmission Superiority: The inclusion of a smooth and responsive CVT option will give the updated Renault vehicle a refined edge over the Gravite’s AMT automatic.
  • CNG Integration: The underfloor, factory-fitted CNG option paired with the turbo engine will provide a massive advantage in both everyday performance and trunk practicality.

However, the competition might balance out eventually. While there is no official confirmation yet, Nissan’s version of the Renault Tribe might also receive similar updates. This means the MPV could get the turbo-petrol engine and a factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG setup placed under the floor, thereby freeing up the boot space. Until Nissan officially rolls out those mechanical upgrades for the Gravite, the upcoming turbocharged Renault will hold a distinct and significant technological advantage in the segment.
