Hyryder is the first product from Toyota after a joint collaboration with Maruti Suzuki in developing Hybrid technology. The Hyryder uses the self-charging series-parallel drive train mated to a petrol engine and the battery. This is our first time driving a car of this nature – a self-charging strong hybrid which has capability to drive in both EV mode and ICE mode. Driving the Urban Cruiser Hyryder Hybrid
During our detailed testing of the car (for over 1 week) Toyota Hyryder managed to perform so good that it became very dependable thing. We tested the Toyota Hyryder on long stretch of state highways and nation highways enroute our journey from Karnataka to Tamilnadu. The Hyryder was also put on a test in the ghat section enroute Kodaikanal and Palani hills in Tamil nadu.
We mostly used ECO mode / Normal mode through out our journey and less frequently tried the sports mode. The Sports mode had that extra kick, but we noticed it was less fuel efficient compared to ECO or Normal. The 1.5 litre engine was butter smooth and the automatic gearbox was just a perfect combination.
We tried cruise control on many occasions on those continuous long roads, which gave our foot some rest. The HUD (Heads-Up Display Unit) was functional and quite handy, but we didnt use it much. Starting the car in EV mode was so much satisfying and silent. The energy-flow animation in the car was great as well, with plenty of features listed on car’s touch infotainment system which was quite wide.
Comfort, Convenience, Utility features in Toyota Hyryder
Thanks to Wireless Charging facility that was available in the car, we were able to charge a Google Pixel 8 phone without any hassle. The wireless Android Auto facility worked seamlessly when paired from the car – the connection did break when paired from the phone. The Google maps navigation worked flawlessly during our 1800 Kms long trip. There are plenty of utility spaces available in the car to hold water bottles. The illuminated glovebox comes in handy as well.
The car gets a very huge sunroof that gives the cabin a spacious feeling. The back seat can also be folded – 60/40 split is available. The boot of new Toyota Hyryder is big – there is a tray underneath and you can pile up lots of bags, suitcases, trolleys and more.
Suspension worked great on humpy and bumpy surfaces – It well insulated the passengers inside the car from drastic shocks . The brakes were quite responsive and did a great job as well.
Fuel Efficiency
We managed to clock an average mileage of around 24Kmpl – which is pretty decent.
Dimensions
The car measures – 4365 mm in length, 1795 mm in width and 1795 mm in height. Length-wise it is quite a substantial car. The fuel tank capacity of the car is 45 litres. The wheelbase of the car is 2600 mm.
Price
The Top of the line Toyota Hyryder (Hybrid V) is priced at Rs 20.19 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi)
Vs the Competition
There are not much competition for Toyota Hyryder at the time of writing this article – as there are very few hybrid cars in the industry in this segment currently. If we compare this car across segment (with Honda City e:HEV), the Hyryder is recommendable for the performance and value that it offers.
Our Verdict
Toyota Hyryder Hybrid seems to be a great package for the price which you pay for the product – In terms of features, not only you get advanced hybrid technology but also multiple other high tech features including wireless charging, large Sunroof, HUD, 360 Degree camera and more. The presence of Cruise control and EV mode keeps your drive engaging . The car is quite practical and spacious. You are choosing the brand Toyota which is a synonym for trust and quality.
