The launch date for the much-anticipated Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara SUV is rumored to be set for December 2, according to recent sources. This follows the company’s earlier confirmation that the EV’s market debut would take place in December, despite earlier delays attributed to battery supply and software challenges.

The e-Vitara is a landmark product for the Japanese carmaker, representing its first electric vehicle for the Indian market. It is produced exclusively at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur factory in Gujarat. The company has already commenced exports in August, shipping about 7,000 units overseas, with the United Kingdom being its top international importer.

Battery, Range, and Performance Specs

The e-Vitara offers strong performance metrics across its battery and drivetrain options, though the first model arriving in India will focus on range:

VariantBattery SpecsHorsepowerRange (WLTP)
Entry-Level FWD49kWh 2WD144hp344km
High-Range FWD61kWh 2WD174hp428km
Range-Topping AWD61kWh AWD184hp394km

The FWD setup of the upcoming e-Vitara will initially arrive in India with the larger 61kWh battery pack. This variant is expected to offer a highly competitive over 500km of ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India)-rated range. The twin-motor AWD variant (dubbed AllGrip-e in international markets) is expected to be introduced later.

Price Expectations and Key Rivals

The Maruti e-Vitara is set to enter a fiercely contested midsize electric SUV segment. Expected ex-showroom prices for the e-Vitara place it in a premium bracket:

  • Base 49kWh FWD: Expected at Rs 20 lakh.
  • Initial Launch Variant (61kWh 2WD): Expected at Rs 25 lakh.

This pricing positions the e-Vitara directly against established and upcoming rivals, including the Mahindra BE 6 (Rs 18.9 lakh–27.65 lakh), Hyundai Creta Electric (Rs 18.02 lakh–24.40 lakh), Tata Curvv EV (Rs 17.49 lakh–22.24 lakh), and the MG ZS EV (Rs 17.99 lakh–20.50 lakh).

The e-Vitara will also sit in a similar price bracket as the larger Vinfast VF7 (Rs 20.89 lakh–25.49 lakh), while the more size-appropriate Vinfast VF6 is positioned aggressively between Rs 16.49 lakh and Rs 18.29 lakh.
