BMW F 450 GS India Launch Confirmed for April 23

The adventure touring segment in India is on the verge of a significant shakeup. BMW has finally sent out an invitation for the launch event of the F 450 GS. The motorcycle is now set for its India launch on April 23.

The BMW F 450 GS has been highly anticipated in India, especially since the discontinuation of the BMW G 310 GS. The outgoing 310cc model previously served as the entry point into BMW’s GS family, a lineup that is well-recognised among tourers and off-road riders. Moving forward, this new adventure tourer will serve as an entry point into BMW’s hallowed GS brand.

The Journey from Concept to Production

The roadmap for this highly anticipated adventure motorcycle has been closely followed by enthusiasts worldwide. The motorcycle was first showcased as a concept at EICMA 2024. Following its initial debut, the F 450 GS was later spotted testing multiple times across various conditions.

Eventually, the wait culminated when the motorcycle was unveiled in production form at EICMA 2025. The transition from concept to a production-ready model highlighted BMW’s commitment to delivering a robust mid-capacity adventure machine.

Local Manufacturing and Global Export

A major highlight of this upcoming launch is the localized production strategy. The F 450 GS is being manufactured here in India by TVS at its facility. Specifically, production of the motorcycle commenced at TVS’s Hosur facility in late November.

This partnership leverages local manufacturing prowess to produce world-class motorcycles. The F 450 GS is being manufactured in India and exported overseas, cementing India’s position as a crucial global hub for premium midsize motorcycle production.

Powertrain Details and Performance Specs

At the heart of the new GS model lies an entirely new powertrain designed for versatile riding environments. Powering the F 450 GS is a 420cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine.

This twin-cylinder configuration is a notable upgrade for the entry-level GS lineup, producing 48hp and 43Nm. To manage this power efficiently, the engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

Advanced Technology and Riding Aids

BMW has ensured that its entry-level multi-cylinder adventure bike does not skimp on modern technological conveniences. The motorcycle features BMW’s Shift Assistant Pro (quickshifter) for clutchless upshifts and downshifts.

Furthermore, the bike is also equipped with BMW’s Easy Ride Clutch (ERC). This system claims to improve operating comfort and riding dynamics, making it easier to maneuver through challenging off-road trails or dense city traffic.

Design Inspiration and Dimensions

Drawing distinct design cues from its larger siblings, the new GS commands a strong road presence. The motorcycle gets quad-LED DRLs (daytime running lamps) inspired by the R 1300 GS flagship tourer.

Despite its aggressive styling and twin-cylinder engine, it remains manageable for a wide variety of riders. The F 450 GS has a kerb weight of 178kg, suggesting an agile and nimble riding experience on tarmac and dirt alike.

Expected Variants for the Indian Market

BMW caters to different rider preferences by offering multiple equipment packages. Internationally, the model is offered in four variants Basic, Exclusive, Sport and Trophy. Current reports suggest that all of which could make their way to India.

Equipment levels will vary across these trims. For instance, the Easy Ride Clutch is standard on the Trophy variant and can be retrofitted to other trims, allowing buyers to customize their riding experience.
