The Indian two-wheeler market has experienced an accelerated surge in demand with the kick-off of the festive season, coinciding with the beginning of Navratri. This festive period is particularly significant due to the much-anticipated GST reduction on two-wheelers, which has eased the cost burden, especially for first-time owners in price-sensitive segments like 100cc and 125cc.

Hero MotoCorp is at the forefront of this market boom, reporting an “unprecedented” wave of customer interest and sales across India.

Record Sales and Surge in Consumer Sentiment

Early indicators point to a massive surge in consumer sentiment. Ashutosh Varma, Chief Business Officer, India Business Unit – Hero MotoCorp, highlighted the decisive shift in buying behaviour:

  • On-the-Spot Purchases: On the very first day of Navratri, the number of customers walking into Hero showrooms and buying a two-wheeler more than doubled compared to last year.
  • Deferred Sales Rebound: Sales that were deferred in anticipation of the new pricing with GST 2.0 have now picked up, signaling a strong intent from customers to own a new vehicle without delay.
  • Customer Interest: Enquiries for Hero MotoCorp products have grown exponentially over the last year, complemented by more than 50% jump in showroom traffic.
  • Digital Traction: Online searches for Hero products have surged to all-time high numbers, jumping up to ~3 times.

GST Benefits and Product Portfolio

The surge in demand is directly linked to the enhanced affordability provided by the GST reduction. Hero MotoCorp has ensured that it passes on 100% of the GST benefits to its customers. For motorcycles and scooters under 350cc (which includes Hero’s main range), the GST rate was lowered from 28% to 18%, resulting in substantial price cuts.
