Bengaluru traffic strikes again. A simple drive to the regional launch of the all-new Mahindra BE 6 SPORTEQ turned into an agonizing crawl, putting me at the venue nearly two hours behind schedule. Thankfully, the GaadiKey crew had arrived early, scoping out the four display cars and unearthing the crucial local pricing strategy before the crowds swarmed.

The Karnataka Pricing Sweet Spot

The biggest takeaway for local buyers is where the BE 6 SPORTEQ lands on the price chart. The crew confirmed that key variants slide just under the ₹25 lakh mark in Karnataka. This is a massive strategic move, allowing buyers to secure crucial tax rebates in the state’s revised EV taxation structure. It makes the otherwise steep asking price much more digestible for the Bangalore tech-park commuter. Siddharth Vishwanath from our team broke this down live from the floor; you can catch his full analysis here: https://x.com/GaadiKey/status/2094035742695821430.

One of the smartest things Mahindra has done is – It has launched the all new BE 6 Sportec in Karnataka under Rs 25 lakhs, there by it is eligible for the full tax rebate. @mahindraesuvs @anandmahindra @Mahindra_Auto @MahindraRise pic.twitter.com/AzNUU85x5r

Visual Impressions: Missing the Hero Color

Walking onto the floor, I expected to be greeted by the heavily marketed Rosso Impulso red or the Firestorm Orange Satin. Instead, the floor was dominated by white and black units. To be blunt, the black unit did not do the BE 6 SPORTEQ any favors. Under the harsh event lights and standard handling, it looked uncomfortably muddy and prone to gathering dust—a nightmare for Bangalore’s construction-heavy zones. The white variant stood out significantly better, highlighting the sharp, aggressive lines of the coupe-SUV silhouette. The Launch Edition, with its exclusive Graphite Storm exterior and Racing Tan leatherette interiors, is supposed to look premium, but seeing the actual hero colors in person would have sold the “rogue” styling much better.

Inside the Cabin: Tech Heavy, Boot Light

We spent a solid chunk of time inside the cabin, and it is an undeniably theatrical experience. Turning the car on greets you with a deep, futuristic sound signature, instantly amplified by a stellar ambient lighting setup. The standout feature is the colossal three-screen coast-to-coast display spanning the dashboard (available from the TWO variant upwards). Playing around with the 3D view and the 360-degree camera was genuinely engaging and functional, giving a sharp, lag-free perspective of the car’s immediate surroundings. Opening the panoramic sunroof further exaggerated the sheer volume of the interior space.

Mahindra BE 6 Interior

However, sitting in the driver’s seat raised immediate questions about outward visibility. The cabin is huge and bulky, wrapping around you in a way that feels secure but slightly claustrophobic regarding the road view. Driving this broad-shouldered SUV through the narrow, chaotic lanes of Indiranagar or Koramangala might require heavy reliance on those 360-degree cameras.

Then we checked the rear. For an SUV with such a massive on-road presence, the boot space is shockingly small. You would struggle to fit two small backpacks in there. If you are planning an airport run with a large trolley bag, good luck. The packaging feels entirely skewed towards cabin luxury at the absolute expense of cargo practicality.

The Software Defined Vehicle: TEQ Suites and Gen AI

Mahindra is leaning heavily into its Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture, powered by MAIA (Mahindra’s Artificial Intelligence Architecture). The SPORTEQ introduces six distinct “TEQ Suites,” most notably TEQ_Talk, built in collaboration with Google Gemini. In theory, this allows for natural, conversational interactions across 17 AI agents to control over 100 core functions and 48 apps, including navigation, climate, and media. Given the rushed nature of our late arrival, I could not thoroughly test the voice commands, but if it works seamlessly, it could be a massive operational upgrade. Notably, Mahindra announced that these new software features will also be rolled out to existing BE 6, XEV 9e, and XEV 9S owners via OTA updates starting in January 2027.

The suite also includes TEQ_Play (karaoke, Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and in-car gaming), TEQ_Drive (Custom and Drift modes), and TEQ_Secure, making Mahindra the first Indian OEM to offer CCC-compliant Digital Car Keys across Apple, Android, and Samsung ecosystems. And yes, they retained TEQ_xting, the personalized tailgate messaging system. We have already voiced our strong opinions on why this feature feels like a childish distraction on the road, which you can read here: https://blog.gaadikey.com/why-mahindra-be6s-teq_xting-tailgate-display-is-a-childish-advertisement-board-pls-stp/.

For those wanting a sportier edge, the Formula E Freedom Edition strips back the massive screens to a race-inspired two-screen layout with a signature halo design. It also adds an exclusive Acceleration Boost, enabling a 0–100 km/h sprint in just 6.44 seconds.

Variants, Battery Options, and Pricing

Mahindra is offering the BE 6 SPORTEQ across eight variants with multiple battery sizes (59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh). To lower the entry barrier, they have introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. The BaaS option brings the starting price down to ₹11.45 lakh, alongside a running battery cost of ₹3.75 per km (calculated by Mahindra based on a 60 km/day usage).

Prices are ex-showroom and exclude wall charger and installation costs. Deliveries officially commenced on August 26, 2026, coinciding with Onam.

The GaadiKey Verdict

The Mahindra BE 6 SPORTEQ is an incredibly aspirational vehicle. It makes you want to sit in it, play with the screens, and explore the AI integrations. The Racing Tan interiors and the sheer theater of the cabin startup sequence are top-tier. Crucially, the sub-₹25 lakh pricing for key variants in Karnataka certainly sweetens the deal, actively rewarding local buyers navigating the new EV tax laws.

But as an everyday car, it presents a genuine dilemma. It is a large, bulky 5-seater with the cargo capacity of a compact hatchback. Is the tech-heavy experience and aggressive styling enough to justify the real-world compromises in outward visibility and boot space? It feels like a high-tech statement piece rather than a practical family hauler. We will have to wait and see if Bangalore’s car lovers are willing to trade utility for Google Gemini and a coast-to-coast display.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the starting price of the Mahindra BE 6 SPORTEQ?

The base ONE variant starts at ₹11.45 lakh (ex-showroom) if you opt for the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, where you pay ₹3.75 per km for battery usage. Without BaaS, the starting price is ₹19.45 lakh.

Does the BE 6 SPORTEQ qualify for tax benefits in Karnataka?

Yes, several key variants fall under the ₹25 lakh ex-showroom threshold, allowing buyers to take advantage of lower road tax brackets under Karnataka’s revised electric vehicle taxation structure.

What is the boot space like on the BE 6 SPORTEQ?

Despite its large exterior dimensions, the boot space is highly compromised. In our hands-on experience, it struggles to hold more than two small backpacks, making large luggage or airport runs difficult.

What is TEQ_Talk in the new BE 6?

TEQ_Talk is a next-generation voice assistant built using Google Gemini. It features 17 AI agents that control over 100 vehicle functions, including navigation, media, and climate control, using natural conversational language.

Are there different screen setups available?

Yes. From the TWO variant upwards, the car features a massive three-screen coast-to-coast display. However, the performance-focused Formula E Freedom Edition strips this back to a race-inspired two-screen cockpit with a signature halo design.
