Vitara Brezza, the recently unveiled compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki is creating lot of waves in Indian automobile industry. Vitara Brezza was in the development phase for more than 4 years and it has generated lot of expectations from auto enthusiasts across the country. The name Vitara hails from Maruti’s previous Grand Vitara which did’t make much noise. This is not true in the case of Vitara Brezza as Maruti Suzuki has received a bookings of around 5,600 units just in 2 days of its launch.

More importantly, Vitara Brezza has created a threat signal for the rivals in sub-compact SUV segment like Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Creta, Mahindra TUV300, Renault Duster and others.

The all new Vitara Brezza is offered only in Diesel variant as of now. So we are comparing the Vitara Brezza along with appropriate Diesel variants only.

In this article we will evaluate Maruti Vitara Brezza’s specifications (particularly engine) keeping its rival compact SUVs as reference.

Maruti Vitara Brezza vs Ford EcoSport

While Vitara Brezza is offered in 1.3 litre Diesel engine, Ford EcoSport gets the 1.5 litre diesel engine. EcoSport churns out a maximum power output of 99 bhp where as the Vitara Brezza churns out 10 bhp less than that of EcoSport. Comparing the torque figures, Ford EcoSport torque stands at 205 Nm which is more than Vitara Brezza (200Nm)

Both Ford EcoSport and Vitara Brezza comes with 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. The mileage offered by Maruti Vitara Brezza is 24.3 Kmpl, the EcoSport offers mileage of 22.7 Kmpl.

Maruti Vitara Brezza vs Hyundai Creta

Unlike Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Creta comes in 2 different diesel engine options 1.4 litre and 1.6 litre. Following is the comparison of Brezza’s engine and power outputs with that of Creta variants.

Vitara Brezza vs Creta 1.4 litre

Creta, since its launch in July last year has got exceptional response from auto enthusiasts across the country. The 1.4 litre engine variant of Hyundai Creta offers 89bhp of power and 224Nm of torque. The power output of Hyundai Creta and Vitara Brezza is same ( 89bhp), Brezza offers 24 Nm less torque than that of Creta 1.4 litre.

While Creta 1.4L variant is offered in 6-speed manual , Maruti Brezza 1.3L is offered in 5-speed manual transmission gearbox only (as of now). The 1.4 litre Hyundai Creta offers a mileage of 21.38 kmpl.

Vitara Brezza vs Creta 1.6 litre

The 1.6 litre Hyundai Creta is way too more than Vitara Brezza’s engine (1.3L). The Creta 1.6L compact SUV churns out 126 bhp of power and 259 Nm of torque. The 1.6L Hyundai Creta gets a 6-speed manual as well as automatic transmission gearbox. The fuel efficiency of 1.6L Creta is 19.67 Kmpl (Manual transmission) /17.01 Kmpl ( Automatic transmission).

Maruti Vitara Brezza vs Renault Duster

Duster can be regarded as one of the pioneers in SUV segment as it is the who started the SUV game in India, way long back. Unlike Vitara Brezza’s 1.3 litre diesel engine, Renault Duster gets 1.5 litre diesel engine.

The Duster comes in 2 tunes – the 5-speed manual transmission gearbox version churns out a maximum power of 84 bhp and 200Nm or torque whereas the 6-speed manual transmission gearbox version of Renault Duster delivers a power output of 108 bhp and 248 Nm of torque. The mileage offered by Renault Duster is 19.6 Kmpl.

Maruti Vitara offers 89 bhp of power and 200Nm of torque and gives an amazing mileage of 24.3 Kmpl.
