Introduction

In a huge pool of Emerging EV makers in India, there are some hidden gems that justifies their marketing material with product offering. One such EV maker is Numeros which recently launched their electric scooter called n-First . Priced very attractively, the scooter gained our attention – mainly because of its unique looks and its coming out from the leadership of Shreyas Shibulal who is also the founder of Micelio Mobility. Numeros Motors was kind enough to offer us an unit of n-First scooter for review at their office premise in Bengaluru. What follows below is the detailed review of new n-First EV scooter. The variant reviewed here is i-Max+ that comes with a larger battery pack (3 kWh) and range,

First impressions of the scooter +. Design and Looks

Numeros has cleverly marketed this scooter as “First-ever Female centric” scooter and it does justify it y trying to make the vehicle very light-weight (112 kgs – 117 kgs), larger floor board, accessible seat height, a dedicated reverse-front switch at this price point. That is quite thoughtful and impressive. When it comes to the looks – n-First does look very pretty with its front round headlamp (LED) which is sharp and bright offering a good light through. The n-First which we got for review was in Traffic Red color option. The paint quality, the glossy finishing, build quality of the scooter felt superior. Visually, when you look at the side profile, you would the notice very large wheels (16 inches) – its quite not common to see large wheels in scooter – but Numeros n-First has broke that rule, and has done something unconventional. We will discuss more on ride and handling ( with large wheels) in the later sections.

The brake wires, many cables and connectors were all neatly organized and housed properly which improved the looks of the scooter. The n-First’s motor is driven through chain drive system – Motorcycle users would love this. We got many live comments and questions from the on-lookers on the chain drive system used.

The tail lights, indicators are all LED which adds upto the premiumness of the motorcycle. The scooter features a fully digital console in the front carrying all the important trip and ride related information. The one being reviewed here being n-First i-Max+ variant, it offers Sports mode along with Normal and Eco. The Digital console displays Speed, charge status, riding modes prominently. The n-First offers a dedicated landscape oriented mobile holder in the front where a smartphone can be easily clipped and docked. Which is again an interesting and functional practical feature for the rider.

Dimensions

Talking about the dimensions, the all new Numeros n-First scooter has a kerb weight of 117 kgs for the top-variant (i-max+ ) and weighs 112 kgs for the max and i-max options. The dimensions of the eScooter is 1979x686x1125mm (LxWxH). The seat height of n-First EV is 785mm making it easy for the rider to hop on, sit and ride with comfort.

Form Factor

Primarily, n-First can be categorized as electric scooter form-factor However the presence of large 16 inch wheels, chain drive system gives it some “vibe” of a motorcycle form-factor.

Motor and Performance

n-First uses PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) type motor which is IP67 rated (dust and can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes). The motor’s peak power output is 2.5kW and delivers a peak torque of 34 Nm. Its a mid-drive motor and is connected to battery to motor by chain. (The power figures discussed here is for the top-trim n-First i-max + only). The top trim n-Max+ Pro can attain a top speed of upto 70 kmph in Sports mode. the max and i-Max can attain maximum speed of 55 Kmph.

Battery Capacity, Range, Warranty, Charging Time and more

Let’s talk about the core of this e-scooter. The new Numeros n-First i-max+ electric scooter is powered by a 3.0 kWh battery pack. The maximum range which can be obtained is 109 Kms – However practically when we tested on the real roads we got about close to about 90 kms of range ( with a mixed use of Normal, Eco and Sports). 109 Kms range can be achieved only when you ride the scooter in Eco mode only which is quite hypothetical. If you are using only Sports mode, you should be getting atleast a range of 70 Kms ( As per our road test conducted in Bengaluru City). The range shall depend on the type of terrain, gradeability and if single-rider or with pillion.

Talking about the warranty , by default Numeros n-First electric offers 3 years of standard warranty of 3 years /30,000 kms and extended warranty of 2 years which can be purchased at Rs 3,500/- for an additional coverage which extends to 5 years/60,000 km. This is a comprehensive warranty at a single umbrella price—covering battery, motor, and controller in one package.

The top variant i-max+ takes about 6-8 hours for full charging as it has a bigger battery pack of 3 kWh. The base variants can be charged at just 6 hours as it is powered by 2.5 kWh battery pack (Li Liquid immersion cooled).

Ride Quality, Handling and Braking and Suspension

We rode the test scooter for about 3 hours and it was quite smooth and offered good sturdiness throughout the trip. The terrain which we rode were all well-asphalted roads (Bengaluru) with a mix of potholes. The scooter did a great job in terms of manoeuvrability and handling – It was agile and offered good stability during the ride ( Thanks to larger wheels). If you are used to riding on smaller 12 inch wheels like Activa or Jupiter, it would take some time for you to adopt.

We mostly used the scooter in Sports Mode, that capped the range – however it offered good performance even during uphill climb. The Eco mode when switched instantly increases the range but reduces the pickup. So it is recommended to ride in Normal or Sports mode while overtaking other vehicles.

The flat footboard offered helps to rest the rider feet easily (especially for female riders). We encountered a dead-end during our test ride, the reversing feature of this electric scooter helped us to easily go back without a hassle to get down and push. Accessing of reverse mode is very intuitive and anyone can easily take the benefit of it without much of learning.

Suspension both in front and back was good enough to handle uneven surfaces. The drum brakes too worked well offering a short braking distance. There is also braking/parking lever offered ( helps during parking).

n-First really wins by providing many rider-friendly features.

Space and Practicality

Talking about the Space, there are multiple hooks offered in the front, where you could easily hook in small bags. I was easily able to hook my camera bag on one of those slots. The pillion seat offers some amount of under-seat storage to car small stuff like documents and stuff.

What impressed us the most is the presence of numeric key-locker that helps in locking your helmet without you needing to purchase a helmet locker or worry about safely storing your helmet when the scooter is not in use.

The front seat too is openable. Both the front and rear seats can be easily locked, unlocked from the key slot controller in the front. There is a portable charger provided along with the scooter, and it can be plugged in easily from the front seat — The other end of the wire is a standard 3-pin which can be connected to any household electric socket for the purpose of charging. Numeros is offering a 1 metre cable for the charging adaptor.

There are many pockets in the front to store small things and there is a dedicated USB charging slot as well. This makes Numeros n-First a very practical package.

Numeros app – Software

Numeros Motors also offers a companion app (Free of cost for now) which helps you access your riding pattern, charging details, the riding modes which you used during the trip, range and better left other crucial information right from your phone. The app also helps you enter your trip destination location which redirects you to Google Maps for navigation. It is quite a handy feature, as it can be docked well in the front of the scooter for the navigation assistance on the go.

Numeros app also enables many other features like Theft and tow detection, remote immobilisation, geo-fencing for safety, last parked status, live location, trip history, ride statistics, service RSA, OTA updates for upgrades etc

Color options

The all new Numeros n-First Electric scooter is offered in 2 color options:

  • Traffic Red
  • Pure White

Price and Variants

Following are the price and variant details of all new Numeros n-First electic scooter:

  • Numeros n- First max: Rs 64,999
  • Numeros n- Furst imax: Rs 74,999
  • Numeros n- First iMAX + Rs 84,999

Verdict

If you are looking out to buy an electric scooter which is good looking and are in a budget of 65k to 85k, Numeors n-First is a great deal. n-First is a good product with many rider friendly features, good on practicality, tech(Numeros Mobile app), decent range and with a good warranty option. We really like how Numeros is able to provide plenty of features also making it very affordable for its prospective buyer.

Numeros is also running some special offers with its channel partners where one could own n-First e-Scooter by getting deals on exchange of their old petrol scooters like Activa etc. For details contact us.
