Tata.ev and Shell India Partner to Launch 21 Mega EV Charging Hubs

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TATA.ev) has announced a strategic partnership with Shell India Markets to establish 21 new mega charging hubs across five major Indian cities. This initiative aims to significantly bolster the public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, catering to both intra-city and intercity travel requirements.

Expanding the Charging Infrastructure

The new 120 kW DC fast-charging hubs are being rolled out in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mysuru, Pune, and Vadodara. This expansion is part of Tata’s “Open Collaboration 2.0” framework, which involves working with charge point operators to develop high-speed charging corridors on highways and within urban centers.

Tata EV Shell India Partnership

Key highlights of the regional expansion include:

  • Bengaluru: The city has added nine new hubs, bringing its total to 13—the highest number of TATA.ev Mega Charging Hubs in any Indian city. These sites cover vital urban zones and highway links to Mysuru, Tumakuru, Hosur, and Hyderabad.
  • Chennai: Five new hubs have been installed in locations such as Pallavaram, Maduravoyal, and Ambattur to support both local and long-distance EV transit.
  • Network Growth: With these 21 additions, the TATA.ev Mega Charging Hub network now includes over 130 operational sites across India.

Enhancing Customer Experience

Beyond high-speed charging, these hubs are designed to provide a comprehensive service experience. Facilities include Shell Select and Deli2go outlets, offering food, beverages, and restrooms to ensure convenience for drivers during charging intervals.

Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, emphasized that robust infrastructure is fundamental to India’s electric mobility transition. Sanjay Varkey, Director of Mobility at Shell India Markets, noted that the collaboration is intended to set a benchmark for reliability, safety, and customer experience.

Future Outlook

Tata.ev has set ambitious targets for the coming years. Under its current framework, the company plans to introduce more than 400,000 charging points and establish a total of 500 Mega Charging Hubs by 2027.
