Tata Harrier and Safari Petrol Score Perfect 5-Star BNCAP Rating

Tata Motors has achieved a significant safety milestone by securing a five-star rating for the petrol versions of the Harrier and Safari in the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash tests. This top-tier safety certification, which was previously awarded to the diesel models, has now been officially extended to their new petrol derivatives.

Outstanding Occupant Protection

Both SUVs maintained their reputation for structural integrity, delivering high scores in both adult and child safety categories:

  • Adult Occupant Protection (AOP): Scored 30.08 out of 32 points.
  • Child Occupant Protection (COP): Scored 44.54 out of 49 points.

These ratings emphasize Tata’s commitment to building some of the safest vehicles for Indian roads, meeting rigorous indigenous testing standards.

New Hyperion Petrol Engine Performance

The petrol-powered Harrier and Safari are equipped with the all-new 1.5-litre Hyperion TGDi turbo-petrol engine. This in-house developed motor offers a refined alternative to the diesel powertrain while matching it in power output.

  • Power Output: 158 bhp (Some reports indicate up to 170 hp).
  • Peak Torque: 255 Nm (Some configurations rated at 280 Nm).
  • Transmission Options: Available with a six-speed manual or a torque converter automatic gearbox.

Exclusive New Variants

Along with the petrol engine, Tata has introduced high-end “Ultra” trims for both SUVs. These include exclusive features and aesthetics under the Fearless Ultra and Fearless Ultra Red Dark ranges for the Harrier, and similar premium trims for the Safari.

Price and Availability

While variant-specific pricing is still being finalized, on-road prices in major cities like Bangalore have been estimated:

  • Tata Harrier: Starting from ₹ 17.66 Lakh.
  • Tata Safari: Starting from ₹ 18.61 Lakh.
