Tata Motors to Power India’s Mass Mobility with 5,000+ Bus Orders

Tata Motors, the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in India, has officially been awarded cumulative orders to deliver more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis. These nationwide orders come from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs). Won through a highly competitive e-bidding process under the government’s procurement system, this development solidifies Tata Motors’ position as a preferred partner for public mass mobility solutions.

Participating State Transport Corporations

The massive 5,000-unit order is distributed among several state and regional transport bodies. The state transport corporations receiving these deployments include:

  • Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC)
  • Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC)
  • North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC)
  • Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC)
  • Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC)
  • Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC)
  • Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC)
  • Department of Road Transport, Haryana Roadways
  • Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU)

What Bus Models Are Being Delivered?

To meet the diverse demands of different regions, the order includes a wide range of passenger mobility solutions. These vehicles are specifically configured for intracity, intercity, and long-haul operations. The models and chassis variants being delivered include:

  • Tata Magna
  • Tata Cityride
  • Tata Starbus
  • Tata Starbus Prime
  • Tata LPO 1618
  • Tata LPO 1622
  • Tata LPO 1822

These buses are engineered to provide efficient operating economics, passenger comfort, and reliable performance across different duty cycles.

Powertrains and EV Count

Tata Motors provides commercial passenger vehicles ranging from 9-seaters to 55-seaters that are equipped with multiple powertrains. While the company’s portfolio supports various fuel types and technologies to meet mass mobility requirements nationwide, the specific number of Electric Vehicles (EVs) included in this 5,000-bus order has not been explicitly disclosed in the current press release.

When Do Deliveries Begin?

There is no single launch date for the entire fleet. Instead, the deployments will be scheduled and executed in phases. The delivery timelines are specifically aligned with the agreements made with each respective State Transport Undertaking.

Furthermore, Tata Motors will support these fleets through its Sampoorna Seva 2.0 program, which offers comprehensive vehicle lifecycle management, including breakdown assistance, maintenance support, and assured turnaround times.
