2021 TVS Scooty Pep+ Review: A hole in your Pocket

This little cute TVS Scooty Pep+ is a beginner's favourite and due to its light weight body it is loved by ladies. What hurts is the low fuel efficiency offered by this scooter creating a deep hole in your pocket.

TVS Motor Company makes country’s best two wheelers – be it in the scooter, moped or in the motorcycle category. One such iconic scooter people remember even Today is its popular “Scooty”. The 2021 Scooty Pep+ is powered by emission compliant BS6 engine and is the latest version offered in this range. The company boasts of Scooty Pep+ having the best technology like ET-Fi that enhances performance, drivability and fuel efficiency of the scooter. Are these claims right? How good is riding the new 2021 Scooty Pep+ scooter? Lets find out.

First Impressions and Design

The scooter looks very humble, minimal, simple and neat. The original Scooty design is its DNA. The new 2021 Scooty Pep+ gets DRL LED Lamp which is always on. The Scooty Pep+ 3D logo looks neat and goes well with the scooter body. The one which we got for review came in Nero blue color option which has a very appealing look and has a good on-road presence.

The scooter gets front glove box and EaZy Centre Stand by default. Provision has been made for USB mobile charging option also. The tailamps are simple, nothing fancy about it. The scooter also features a very readable speedometer along with the fuel economy indicator, Speed gauge, indicators on one simple white panel.

Engine and Performance

The all new 2021 TVS Scooty Pep+ is powered by a 87.8cc Single cylinder, 4-stroke, fuel-injection engine based on ETFI Technology. The engine of Scooty Pep+ is capable of churning out maximum power of 4 KW @ 6500 RPM and torque of 6.5 NM @ 3500 RPM and is mated to a CVT Drive. The scooter engine is noisy and doesn’t feel like its smooth.

Dimensions

Lets talk about the dimensions of all new TVS Scooty Pep+ scooter. The scooter has a wheelbase of 1230 mm and ground clearance of 135 mm. The fuel tank capacity of 2021 TVS Scooty Pep+ scooter is 4.2 litres.

Ride and Handling

The ride and handling of new TVS Scooty Pep+ scooter is decent enough but you have to be aware this is an extremely light weight scooter and ride it accordingly to the mass of the scooter. This can be a great scooter for accomplishing simple day-to-day tasks like dropping the kids to school, vegetable shopping and small distance rides. You also get an ample amount of storage under the seat to store bags and items.

The scooter has decent suspension system – thanks to telescopic front suspension in the front and coil spring with hydraulic dampers type suspension in the rear. Taking on potholes and uneven road surfaces should not be a problem. The brakes are good enough and functions well as expected. The pillion riding on this scooter is comfortable because of large size seat, the pillion rider also gets grab rails to hold himself firmly during the commute.

Where is the hole?

Obviously in your pocket. The TVS Scooty Pep+ fails to meet the customer expectation of offering good fuel efficiency. Despite being so light weight, and running on low capacity engine (as low as 87.8cc), the scooter barely meets to reach 30-35 Kms per litre which is surprising but true. We really do not know the reason for such low mileage figures – It could be because of additional BS6 emission norms that could have taken toll on its fuel efficiency. Contradicting this, TVS advertises their ETFI technology on this scooter shall improve the fuel efficiency by 15%, but it seems only on paper. So make your purchase decision keeping this in mind.

Color options

The all new 2021 TVS Scooty Pep+ is offered in 7 attractive color options namely:

  • Aqua Matte
  • Coral Matte
  • Revving Red
  • Frosted Black
  • Glittery Gold
  • Nero Blue
  • Princess Pink

Verdict

Should you buy this scooter? Yes, why not? This is an amazing scooter and meets your short travel requirements. This scooter is tailor made for beginners and ladies – if you are new to riding, you can use this to learn. The bike is extremely light, simple, minimal and works well except that it wont provide the mileage figures as advertised.
