Tata TIGOR Review (Petrol XZ Variant)

I have been a big fan of my own car (Swift Dzire) as we have been friends for a while now and it never gives up on road. That is why I was over thrilled to try one more Sub-4-Meter car. This time we got our hands on Tata Tigor, the most awaited passenger car in 2017. Tata Motors is best at launching budget friendly passenger cars which is also famous for its cost effective maintenance.

We decided to call this car a “Small Wonder” as it was power packed with all features in a very compact size model. The car cannot be called a sedan from its profile as it evidently looks like a notchback and that is why Tata categorizes it to a “Styleback”.

Interior and Exterior

The exterior of the car looks very classy because the way it has been effortlessly styled. It is made of solid build but feels light weight during handling. The petrol variant given to us has a 1.2 litre Revotron engine popping out 89 bhp power and 114 Nm torque with a gearbox of 5-speed manual transmission. The extra-long wheelbase gives amazing leg room in the interiors and the turning radius of 5.1 m makes it easy for U’s in the traffic. All the speed-breakers were tackled effortlessly by the Tigor on full load due to its 170 mm ground clearance.

The interior of the car is what makes it a definite buy, The connectNext system by Harman comes with a whooping package with Touchscreen, NaviMap, Bluetooth call attending features, speed dependent volume control, climate control and the amazing 4 speaker 4 tweeter speakers. But what is annoying is the loud sound during the reversing. Instrumental panel also is something to be brought to notice as it comes with several modes displaying Digital clock, gear shift, Trip meter, fuel efficiency, DTE and Warning messages.

The dual toned dashboard gives that luxury feeling at the first sight and makes you fall in love with it. There are lot of storage space, just think of what you want to keep and you will definitely find a space for it. Talking about the space the leg room and the head room can fit in a six feet man easily and that is a wow factor. Considering all these Tata have not compromised on the boot space providing a massive 419 Litre capacity easy enough to fit a family’s luggage during a long journey.

Test Drive and Technical specification

The variant which we got was the 1.2 litre petrol XZ variant in the copper Dazzle colour from a lot of six colours to choose from Pearlescent White, Striker Blue, Espresso Brown, Platinum Silver and Berry red (See all colors of TIGOR). Although it was a petrol variant it was giving us the felling of a diesel due to is vibrating nature and hustling sound. It gave an average mileage of 14 kmph in the city traffic and 16 kmph in the highway. But with the tiny body type we could just swish and swash in heavy traffic conditions.

There are two driving modes “Eco mode” and “City mode”, with a button’s press we could switch to eco mode although it made no difference in the driving condition.

Safety and Security

Tata Tigor comes with the same safety features as in Tiago which includes Speed dependent door locks, Park assist with rear sensors, two airbags for the driver and the co-driver, seat belt with load limiter and warning messages until you have put on your seat belts and all the doors are locked.

Prices

Tata Tigor comes in four variants in petrol and 4 variants in Diesel, Petrol top end being Rs 5,97,643 on Road price for the lower end and Rs 7,88,376 for the Top end model. Whereas the Diesel model ranges from Rs 7,19,152 for the lower end and Rs. 9,04,538 for the top end.

Verdict

We would definitely recommend Tata Tigor for a small budget family car, giving a thumbs up to its exterior style and power packed interiors but what is to be kept in mind the quivering sound and vibrations while driving.
