Introduction

Known for its popular FZ series motorcycles, Yamaha India has come a long way impressing its customers in its every single product iteration – from FZ V2.0 to V 3.0 to V 4.0. 150CC-160CC motorcycle is a highly competitive market filled with multiple products like Pulsar, Apache, Xtreme, Unicorn, Hornet where customer enjoys the benefit of performance, sportiness and most importantly impressive fuel economy. Leading from the front, Yamaha has brought in the.Sporty and stunning looking Yamaha FZ-S version 4.0 with advanced segment-first features like Traction control system and Yamaha motorcycle connect bluetooth option. Thanks to Whitefield Yamaha dealership in Bangalore for handing over the motorcycle in nice condition for this review.

Yamaha FZ-S Version 4.0 in metallic grey color option

In this review, we are sharing our test ride experience of all new Yamaha FZ-S Ver 4.0 after properly using it for 1 full week in Bengaluru. We rode close to 400 kms on a full tank with still 2 bars to spare. What follows below is the detailed review of FZ-S V 4.0

Design and Looks

The motorcycle is a looker – The FZ-S Ver 4.0 steals your heart at the very first look, especially the one dressed with metallic grey color option. The most attractive part of this stunning 150cc motorcycle is its unique muscular looking fuel tank with a very stylish FZ-S logo signed with V 4.0 below. Not to forget, the blue strips on 17 inch alloy wheels further adds up to the unique design character of this bike further enhancing the sportiness. The chrome strips with grille like design in the front is great.

The FZ-S Ver 4.0, of course inherits the earlier FZ-S DNA, this time, gets a a very bright LED Headlamp which relatively looks small and sharp compared to other 150cc motorcycles out there. The bike gets a shorter exhaust and muffler around it which adds upto the side profile looks. Tail lamps are great as well. FZ-S features LED indicators both in the front and the rear.

Digital Console

The Yamaha FZ-S Ver 4.0 gets a Fully digital instrument cluster. One more reason to choose the all new Yamaha FZ-S Ver 4.0 is because it features a negative LCD display which is fully readable even in the daylight under the hot sun. The time, the speed, the Kms value, fuel gauge and tachometer and other rider related information are well-displayed. We wish the digital console also featured the gear indicator for providing more intuitive feedback to the rider. The bluetooth pairing, connectivity options , phone, messages, call alerts can also be accessed via this digital console.

Engine and Vehicle Dimensions

The all new Yamaha FZ-S Version 4.0 is powered by a 4-stroke, 2 valve, air-cooled engine with a displacement of 149cc which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The maximum power offered by this motorcycle is 12.4 PS and peak torque output is 13.3 Nm.

When it comes to the dimensions, the new Yamaha FZ-S weighs 136 Kgs and has a ground clearance of 165 mm. The wheelbase of new FZ-S V4 measures 1,330mm, length is 1990 mm, width is 780mm and the height is 1080mm. The fuel tank capacity of new Yamaha FZ-S V3 motorcycle is 13 litres.

Performance and Ride Quality

The power delivery of all new Yamaha FZ-S V4 is just right. Of course it is a 150cc motorcycle with just 5 gears mated to it – there are limits. The motorcycle moves with lot of might in it. Our ride mostly composed of city roads with both stop-and-go traffic conditions as well as long and deep national highways – the FZ-S offers a very comfortable riding experience. It is smooth, agile and also thanks to the new Traction Control System which is segment first addition and helps in achieving quality ride under tough terrain and weather conditions.

Does it really revv your heart?

Not just your heart, even the fellow riders’ next to you can hear the pure nature of this motorcycle’s sound. The engine noise is great, the exhaust noise is tuned so well and it feels like doing one extra mile every single time you halt. The presence of single channel ABS and traction control system adds further confidence to your riding ability. You can easily do proper cornering and manoeuver so well without any hiccups – the motorcycle and the motorcycle’s sound encourages you to do that more often.

Brakes and Suspension

Thanks to the dual disc brake setup – the front disc measures 282 mm and the rear disc measures 220 mm which assists in quick braking. For safety, the FZ V4.0 gets single channel Anti-lock Braking system (ABS).

Talking about the suspension system, the all new Yamaha FZ-S Version 4.0 gets telescopic fork based suspension system in the front and 7-Step Adjustable Monocross Suspension at the rear. The suspension system in the new Yamaha FZ V4.0 is pretty decent and shields your from all that rough patches on the road up to certain extent.

Whooping Mileage

We are truly impressed by the mileage offered by the new Yamaha FZ-S Version 4.0 – it does not disappoint -offers upwards of 45-50 Kmpl easily and we are not exaggerating at all.

Colors

The all new Yamaha FZ-S motorcycle is available in 3 attractive color options namely: Metallic Grey, Majesty Red and Metallic Black. The one which we have reviewed here is the FZ-S Version 4 in Metallic Grey color option.

Price

The all new Yamaha FZ-S Version 4.0 motorcycle is launched at an attractive price of Rs 1.29 lakhs ( Ex-showroom Delhi). The on-road price of Yamaha FZ-S V 4.0 in Bengaluru is around Rs 1.6 lakhs.

Verdict

Riding the all new Yamaha FZ-S Ver 4.0 is an experience in itself. Who said one cannot have all the fun in a 150cc motorcycle? The FZ-S Ver 4.0 is a great recipe for a perfect 150cc motorcycle and gives it all the looks you ask, performance you crave for and it always feels like riding more thanks to its brilliant fuel efficiency figure! It is Rs 10-15k steeper than the FZ V3.0 and older FZ series but its worth the extra spend. FZ-S v 4.0 guarantees a real “Call of the Blue” moment and it does revv your heart! Try it.
