Gixxer-Logo-on-Bike

The Gixxer craze is very much alive. Suzuki Gixxer is turning out to be company’s most successful motorcycles produced ever with over 45,000 bike units getting sold within 6 months of its launch. The naked Gixxer was first launched during September 2014. Realizing the potential of Gixxer in the market, Suzuki released a full faired version of the bike with the name Suzuki Gixxer SF.

Today we are going to do a detailed review of Standard Gixxer (Naked version).

Look and Feel

Unlike its successor, the standard Gixxer doesn’t have any fairing in the front. The first thing you notice in the bike is the muscular fuel tank in the front. Height wise, the bike looks pretty short and the rear wheel looks pretty stylish at first glance, because of heightened seating and Mudguard at the back. The tail light in the rear catches anyone’s eyes.

One honest feedback from the on-lookers which we received was, the style and design matched Yamaha FZ bike, especially the fuel tank design.

All-digit Instrument meter

Gixxer-Dashboard
Suzuki Gixxer 155 comes with a fully-digital instrument panel in the front. The dashboard doesn’t have a protective shield, but elegantly displays riding reference essentials like the current gear, speedometer, odometer, RPM values as well as a digital Clock. However, we noticed the kilometer values in odometer did not have any decimal precision and was updating only after a flat kilometer.

Instrument panel sports remaining fuel in the gauge view, the RPM indicator blinks when there is a sudden raise in acceleration when you are riding. Controls like turning the headlights in 2 modes, lits up the display panel which is pretty useful during night. Other controls include turn indicators and horn.

Braking

The Gixxer 155cc has a pretty much responsive braking, which we think is really important for road handling. All thanks to the front disc brakes and rear drum brakes. The tyres in Suzuki Gixxer are tubeless.

Suspension

The bike offered pretty good resistance to the patches present on the city roads. All thanks to front telescopic suspension and mono-shock swingarm type suspension in the rear.

Performance of naked Gixxer

In order to analyze the Performance of Gixxer, we took the bike for a long ride, from city to Airport which is situated in the outskirts. The bike provided instant acceleration, with a welcoming blinking RPM indicator which encouraged us to zoom up further. We reach a speed of 70kmph with in 8 to 10 seconds, there on, the speed got saturated around 80-85. We also noticed there was a difficulty in accelerating after reaching a certain point, may be it is Suzuki’s approach to stop the speedsters.

We would like to inform our readers not to place any materials in the space below back seat – as it blocks the air filter and could hamper your riding experience, (in our case, the gloves was obstructing the air filters, which resulted in not able to accelerate)

Gixxer-Front

Road handling and turning

Without doubt, Suzuki Gixxer offers best road grip when you are on road. It was a joy to ride this bike during turnings and to switch between lanes with great ease.

Engine, Specs and Mileage

The naked Suzuki Gixxer is powered by a 155cc, air-cooled 1 cylinder carburetted engine. The bike delivers power of 14.6 bhp and a maximum torque of 14 Newton meters. Gixxer is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Suzuki Gixxer’s engine is equipped with Suzuki Eco Performance (SEP) technology, that helps reduce mechanical losses and improves the combustion, there by providing mileage upto 50kmpl ( values, as per our test ride ).

The fuel tank capacity of Suzuki Gixxer is 12 litres.

Gixxer-Side

Colors

The Gixxer has more variety of colors to choose from, than that of Gixxer SF. The bike is offered in 5 different colors: Candy Antares Red (which is shown in this article), Glass Sparkle Black, Metallic Oort Grey, Metallic Triton Blue and Pearl Mirage White.

Price of Suzuki Gixxer

Suzuki Gixxer has been priced at Rs.72,199 (Ex-showroom, Delhi).

Verdict

Overall, the naked Gixxer 155 is a great bike for people who are looking for power, speed, mileage and control. The 45k unit sales of Gixxer in first six months is a natural testimony to bike’s success. The Gixxer is going to take on likes of Yamaha FZ FI V2.0, Hero Xtreme and the Honda CB Trigger.
